Derby said"My position is let them sort this mess out on their own and requires neither bias for or against the CPC."

But as Liberanos and NDPer's point out " Canada has long tradition of Peacekeeping and humanitarianism ".

To leave Afghanistan now would turn our back on both.

It isnt really a security breach as these guys were flown everywhere, and were very well protected that the Taliban had no choice but to stay away.

Do you really think these spoiled politicians would dare travel the same roads as out troops?? Give me a break!!!

DerbyX DerbyX:

Wrong again chummer. You guys woudl have had a hairy fit had it been a Liberal email concerning a CPC visit and you know it.

.

Who would have been a better target for the Taliban? The governing party of a Nation or some loud mouth member of the opposition. Not quite the same thing red boy.

Even a Liberal supporter has to realize that if he did get killed, it would be the best thing to ever happen to that party because that frenchie has no chance of becoming PM. He just looks like a little weasel.

most over-used term in 2007. I notice it's mostly used by liberals who don't like someone expressing their opinions.

There it is again--this inability to rise above domestic politics, to see any issue out of your blinkered left-right mentality.

Anyone who wishes death on any Canadian political figure is out of line. (Not to mention the use of bigot terms like "frenchie.") Your goddamned right I'd say the same thing if someone here mused aloud about how great it would be if Harper were assassinated. That's just troll talk.

Newsflash: It's 2008. Try to keep up. Sheesh.

You guys are so full of it.
If that had been any one of the CPC folks, it's all we'd be hearing about now. Even the CBC has dropped this story and are pushing anything else to cover it up.
As an example, Day's personal religious beliefs was a topic for months and still will pull chuckles, yet this is a major insult to an allie by an opposition member playing Canadian politics on an international scale.

If it had been a CPC saying it you would have either proclaimed it as "the truth everybody needs to hear" or a despicable political ploy by the Liberals just as you would have denounced a Liberal email concerning CPC Afghan visit plans as treason.

BTW, nobody seems to be addressing the fact that these comments came after talking to the people over there. Perhaps he is just echoing the belief that letting the enemy rearm and reequip in a safe zone is far from wise?

Perhaps he did talk to the troops after all.

It was a 2 day trip. If it was so simple that Dion could learn everything in 2 days, we'd be out of there by now. If only a brainiac like Dion could see through it, he should have been yanked away from his do-nothing job as enviroment minister and put tu use. By that theory, we'd be out of there by now.

How long did Harper stay? 3 days? A week?

We listened to you guys bitch and complain about the Liberal not visiting. Then you bitched about the visiting. Then you went back to bitching about them not visiting and this latest visit by Dion say the G&M actually blast him for not visiting 30 seconds after becoming Liberal leader in the very same article it attacked him for visiting.

At the same time you guys simply dismissed a very serious breach of security that you know full well you would have decried as treason had it been in reverse.

So was this a mistake when Chretien sent us there?
How many Canadian lives was this worth?

When did it stop being a good, noble thing to do and started to tarnish canada's peace keeping image?

I'm guessing that was the day after Harper was elected.

As I said on the other thread, The CPC has always been behind this mission and it's people and we still are.

Look at that.. it's already a video. :-)

You keep thinking that Chretien sent us there with the same mission we have now in mind. He didn't because it didn't exist. It was all about getting OBL, which was our only justification for going.

How many lives? You first since you want to put a price on it in human lives.

The real question is: Is it worth yours? How about someone you love?

Come down off your high horse because that isn't what this mission is about and its the military who have very angrily rejected any notion of peacekeeping with regards to Afghanistan.

I stopped being noble the moment we decide that since we failed to get OBL we might as well make ourselves at home and force our beliefs on others because we happen to be in the neighbourhood.

Ya, I'm sure. You guys didn't support Chretien or MArtin on this mission. All you did was attack them for sending in the military ill-equiped at the same time as attacking them for not sending us into Iraq.

At no time did you or anybody who voted for the CPC stand up and say "I support the Liberals and their decision".

At best you said "I support the US led war and Canada's participation" which you then followed with an attack on the Liberals for any number of reasons.
