CAW another union wasteland..they could all get jobs at Toyota!

maybe if the former"big 3" would build something other than gas guzzlers they wouldn't need government bail outs

And evidently you haven't seen the new Malibu. GM has turned the corner (Saturn is evidence of this) and while it may not be yet on par with Honda/Acura or Toyota (which, by the way has seen its reliability slip)/Lexus, it's certainly competitive with Nissan/Infiniti and other brands. Give GM a chance. And if Ford can figure out what's going on at Mazda, they might see the light eventually too.

I'd give anybody a chance (how many friggen thousand years do they need) just start building some cars people want.

Time will tell how that Malibu does, will they sell it for a profit or give it away with incentives.

I gave up on Ford Dodge and Chrysler, Honda isn't any better I won't buy another one of those. I will only buy Toyota and maybe an IS250AWD if it comes out in 6spd manual

BTW Lexus is only behind Porsche in quality I won't spend that much on a car!

If toyota ever smartens up and puts a diesel in their tundra they will get a huge share of the Alberta market.

Ford is hoping they never do!

GM also.

Lots of fleets would get changed if they did.Diesel rules in Alberta, you will never run out of fuel out in the boonies in a diesel.

"Gas Guzzlers"? How do you figure that? My Canadian built 4 door V-8 Ford(s) get great gas millage, better than many Toyotas. My one with 310 HP, gets about 8.5L/100km on the highway. The other one gets 8.4 l/100km combined city&highway, real world fuel economy. (~29MPG).

What does Toyota have in the 5 passenger range to compare? A Corolla only gets 31MPG combined, and would you want to sit in one for 5 hours at a stretch?

I owned nothing but V8s until 3 years ago if you're trying to tell me that you can get 33mpg out of a Ford V8 you better get a patent on that one

The 1999 Ford Taurus SHO (V-8 ) was rated at 28 highway and many reviews had it getting 33 and even 35 mpg.

Google it all - lots of references out there to this one.

I would have chosen the Tundra over the duramax if it was diesel,so would a lot of my buddies and a few energy outfits. Nice looking beast with the durability of a Toyota.Plus about 25 grand cheaper.

Drove by the chevy dealer yesterday and noticed the huge chrome ends on the front bumpers of the new trucks....who designs this shit? 8O Are they trying to capture the "soccer mom" market or what?

Where's a REAL work truck when you need one?

I can see that bumper pitted and rusted after 3 months on a rural road.

Hey bart, where did you get the idea that unions oppose quality control?

PostPosted: Tue Jan 15, 2008 3:16 pm

With 15 inch's of fresh heavy snow I thought I would give my duramax a test in the deep stuff and get a breath of fresh air this morning.

Not impressed, the snow blows up over the hood because of the low bumper and freezes on your windshield and fills your fresh air vents with snow which then fogs up your windshield. The truck is also very stiff with a huge turning radius which means lots of stuckage.Still better than the new ford powerstroke 350.

Who's designing these new trucks?

Soccer mom's?

Because part of the Total Quality Management model (whence comes the term) requires that employees who do not perform at TQM standards be dismissed, that those who meet the standards be retained, and that those who exceed the standards be recognized and publicly praised for their contributions to the corporations success.

The UAW has consistently opposed merit bonuses, has consistently opposed TQM, and has consistently resisted retaining or dismissing employees based upon their performance and instead adheres to their tired model of retaining people according to their seniority.

TQM cannot exist in a seniority or non-meritocracy system.

Consequently, it is the non-union Toyota and Saturn plants in the USA that turn out the highest quality cars. Ironically, the non-union employees are paid the same as the union employees by both firms save that the non-union employees receive production and quality bonuses and consequently make more money than their UAW counterparts.

High performance engine in a moderate size car.

Rated and real world are 2 different things. I would still like to know what he's driving because most of todays small SUVs with a 2.4l engine get the mileage he claims to get. Bart if you can show me a large 4 door with a V8 that gets better mileage than my Corolla I want to know what the hell it is so I can go get one ROTFL

Agreed. It was rated at 28mpg highway and in the real world it actually got 33 and 35 mpg for many people.

What year Corolla do you have? I'd like to change the direction of this conversation to improving the performance and mileage of your Corolla. The same techniques to improve both on a V-8 will work on your Corolla to an extent, as well.

Well...the auto magazines are giving the Malibu pretty high praise (and C&D, for instance, can be quite particular), so we'll see (and reliability hasn't necessary been a huge issue with GM)

And Toyata/Lexus has had some issues (i'd wager initial reliability may change for Lexus) Recalls for Camrys and ES300s (and on transmissions, for Bob Lutz's sake!)? That's not exactly stuff to get excited for.

Personally, I can't stand Toyotas. They're soulless, punched, appliances with unbelievably cheap interiors. Want reliability + performance? Buy a Honda/Acura. Want a reliable appliance. Get a Corolla. :P

BTW a Corolla gets a hell of a lot more than 31mpg combined where the fuck did you get that stat from.

From places that do long term testing, and actual fuel usage measurement. The EPA estimates are wayyy off.

Robair Robair:
What exactly are you driving??

mtbr mtbr:
Yeah what the hell are you driving and I think you flunked math

See attachment. Plus an older Crown Vic. My stats are real world, not EPA estimates. I get far better fuel usage than the estimates. Even driving with a heavy foot.
