I'm no law expert but do you not need to cause harm for it to be assault or at least lead to bodily harm?

Not sure how this goes in Canada but all she would have to do is say it hurt some when he grabbed me to turn me around and bang you have assualt. Just the pokeing of a finger into someones chest can be assualt.

Don't know if it hit the CKA news radar while I wasn't here, but this is part of the same establishment that hosted the drunk Christmas Eve mob that went out into the streets and assaulted police officers (and resulted in 38 arrests).

Cheers is probably the least rowdy of the group of bars that make up the Dome, though - this is definately not 'typical' behaviour to be expected there from my (limited) experience.

lily lily:
I'd consider it.

have you thought of just slapping the man or throwing your drink at him

or leaving

instead of putting him through legal fees, a possible arrest, possible trial, and even jail time for basically plain old jackassery?

Brenda Brenda:
Depends...

Yeah if he's cute you wouldn't press charges I'll bet

I support this though

Let's face it if you're ugly you're basically a terrible person

 No, being cute or not is no criteria for suing, imo ;-)

It depends completely on the circumstances, the reaction that he gave to me after slapping him in the face and the way I was touched. ;-)

I have difficulty seeing any circumstances in which someone touching you without your consent is grounds for going to jail

Hey, I'm not about to tell you what gets your rocks off :P

I'm not going to waste a perfectly good drink on an ass, and slapping him is out of the question if he's surrounded by a bunch of friends and I'm not.

what do you drink that's too precious to throw exactly?

the friends thing doesn't seem like a valid argument because men shouldn't hit women, but then again, he groped you or something to begin with, so I suppose you have a point there

there's still the option of, you know, leaving

lily lily:
His legal fees, etc really aren't my concern, and as my mother always says, "he should have thought of that beforehand."

Yeah after all why should you have any concern for fairness or justice

there's a difference between defending yourself at the time or exacting revenge later out of proportion to the original offense

and bringing the full force of the legal system to bear on some frathouse chumpstain is way out of proportion

Obviously you did not read the artical she was trying to leave the area where the TV was at when she was grabed and turned around. Poor guys should have known better then to try and FORCE someone to watch it.

Maybe these guys will learn not to put there hands on someone who does not want them to.

for some reason she then felt the need to call the bar several times to lodge a complaint and then saw fit to contact the police for the terrible, terrible pain inflicted on her

Yep and leason learned for all the fools out there. When a woman says no about anything dont try to force her or your ass will end up in court.

I'm wondering what is so hard for those guys and you to understand the word no is it the N or the O?

I have certain parts you better keep your hands off if you don't have my consent... And when I told you "no" once, ít is obvious you don't have my consent. Go on, and it could get really ugly ;-)

So IF someone touches you repeadly with their fists while your trying to walk away from the bar you would not call the cops?

But that's ENTIRELY out of proportion to the original offense--it's Saudi "justice".

Well once you've had enough Schlitz it's hard to understand anything other than you want to punch that Finnish guy for looking gay

Yeah I'm sure you don't want strangers trying to pet the beaver, but do you really think that should be a jailable offense? Really?

The most appropriate thing to do seems to be to bypass the legal system and have a husband/boyfriend/father/brother/etc. slug the guy.

No, I'd continue leaving. If forcibly prevented from leaving, I'd fight my way out. If I had to do that, I can see why you would call the cops, although I wouldn't personally for various reasons. And yes, I realize this is a different situation for women, who (generally) can't fight their way out--but let's be honest here, she was able to get out of there.

I agree with you that suing over this is out of proportion.

yes. and so is rape. Don't touch my private parts, and I am the one to decide which parts of me are private...

Why would I want to make me so dependent, and not fight my own case?

If I can get someone so far they beat this guy up, the day after (because I was in the pub alone, without my brother that I don't have, my father that lives far away, and looking for a bf/husband ), don't you think HE would sue the one who knocked his teeth out of his mouth?
