Maybe if I deem you more wealthy than I you think I should be able to walk into your home and take perhaps your stereo or maybe your car? Because hey I think you can afford to buy a new one so I should be able to steal from you. Theft is theft regardless of someone's situation and you think most people would have learnt this in kindergarten that is wrong to take things from people without asking permission to do so.
There is equipment to probably be able to break into a bank vault too but just because you can does not make it right to do so. I'm no fan of levies or excess taxes either since they will just end up hurting manufacturers and their distributors which does nothing but rob peter to pay paul. However what are recording companies and their clients supposed to do?
Sorry Clog - Break and Enter, and Theft of Property is a crime.
Copyright infringement is a Tort at best. Copying music CD's for personal use is legal in Canada, as is location shifting.
The CIRA would have you believe it is a crime, but it is not. Making me pay an extra $25 for the 2G thumb drive I just paid $10 for because I *might* copy music to it (when I really use it to back up personal data) is the crime. And you're falling for their propaganda.
If they made 'mix' CDs like people wanted, or had a $17 CD actually with $17 worth of music on it, they might sell more. Capitalism is about meeting the market demand at a reasonable price. Legislating the price or poor market strategies isn't capitalism.
We've seen that the RCMP have been busting the big crime groups for DVD piracy - so why do we need, as non infringing public, to pay more into their coffers? Does Da Vinci get paid every time someone takes a photo of 'David'?
