It is uncalled for that you are trying to attack me (again) while you have no knowledge. I can post 's whenever I want. Don't like it? Don't discuss anything with me

second, Yes, WestJet was irresponsible. And so where the parents. Period. I don't know what you do with your kids, but I assume you are too smart (or responsible...) to put them on a plane alone when they are 5, and they have never flown before. If you did like these parents did, you were equaly irresponsible.

lily lily:
What makes you think the flight wasn't direct, Brenda?

West jet fly's from Edmonton to Winnipeg to Montreal; fly's from Calgary to Toronto to Montreal. ;)

lily lily:
THese parents weren't being irresponsible - they paid the UM fee to ensure their daughter had a safe flight, and it's not their fault the airline screqed up.

Quoting regina here for your answer:

Regina Regina:
It was the kid's first flight and there should have been a parent on the flight with her. If for nothing else, to monitor the child's reaction to traveling in that mode. What if the child was terrified and or sick?

Frankly, if the child needs comfort during a flight because they shit their pants over take-off... there isn't much a flight attendant can do.

Regina Regina:
Lily this isn't about you and your 13 year old flying and the other one loving to fly.

Would you put your 5 year old daughter on a plane ride with multiple stops, alone and for the first time?

It's irresponsible for parents to shuffle their child off alone like that when they have no clue as to their reaction in that situation.

I make sure my kids fly direct, and a single stop isn't "multiple".

This isn't about my kids... but since when can't we use personal experience to illustrate a point?

You keep saying this isn't about your kids yet you answer using them as an example. I separated my question from the rest of the stuff to make it simple and clear.

Would you or wouldn't you put your 5 year old daughter on a lengthy flight with one or more stops, alone and for the first time?

I agree with Regina and Brenda wholeheartedly on this. I know there was another thread before where this was discussed and turned into a bit of a flame.

I think it's irresponsible on both the airline and the parents, but I place the parents more at fault here. Again, it's due to the fact that the child is FIVE. I'm all for independence but not at that level at that age!

I started flying from a young age, but one or both of my parents were always with me. Then when i was 16 I flew by myself from northern Alberta to Florida. And that was a nerve-wracking experience trying to deal with airports and luggage and all that. I can't imagine being 5 and being in an unknown place such as an airport...I would think it would be very bewildering.

Gosh, Regina, I already answered that.

And I'm using my own experiences as an example because people want to paint all parents who allow their kids to fly as UMs as irresponsible.

No you didn't. You just referred back to what you currently do with yours.......which isn't a comparison or an answer.

So??

Would you or wouldn't you put your 5 year old daughter on a lengthy flight with one or more stops, alone and for the first time?

So you are saying you wouldn't let your 5 year old fly alone for the first time?

Not exactly a clear answer the first time.

I said I agreed with what he said about flying for the first time. I even quoted what he said about it.

How is that not clear?

"It was the kid's first flight and there should have been a parent on the flight with her," followed by; "I agree with the part about the first flight," isn't a clear answer too; "Would you or wouldn't you put your 5 year old daughter on a lengthy flight with one or more stops, alone and for the first time?"

especially when you say right after your first answer that, "I don't, however, feel it's irresponsible to allow a child to fly as an UM... and yes, my son is 13 now, but he wasn't the first time he flew alone, and my daughter is even younger."

get my drift? There was no distinct Yes or No in regards to whether you would allow you children to fly unaccompanied for the first time at the age of 5.

lily lily:
What article did you read, Brenda?

Those were simple questions, not "attacks" with a "tone".

I guess that is in the eyes of the beholder, right?

Maybe I am just sick an tired of having to prove every word I say to you, because you will never just agree with what someone says. You will not do your own research, you just state: you say something, you back up.

It is not my problem you don't watch the news, or try to discuss a topic only on the one newsstory.

This is the airlines fault.

It is reasonable that paying an extra fee to the airlines to look after your kid, a fee which is supposed to guaruntee the welfare of your child, will actually guaruntee safeguarding of your child.
You guys can't tell me you have never had a teenager babysit your kids? How is a teenager more trustworthy than a company that professionally transports people?
