It is not my place to be the Hijab Police? ROTFL Meaning to say I cannot express my opinion? It is not your place to tell me I cannot :?

Who's place is it? Solely Muslims?

No, you can express your opinion, but if you were to become a ref, and had a girl at a game who was wearing a Hijab, your opinions would not count. The only thing that would count is does the Hijab violate the laws of the game. Tied behind the neck, it does not.

I know.

If I would be a ref, I would base my opinion on the rule book. But, it also means, anyone who wants to play with a cap on can do so. Anyone who wants to play with a skirt instead of shorts can do so. Anyone who wants to play in shorts instead of a skirt can do so.

The weird part of the push-thru of the Hijab is, that they say they can't show themselves. But they can play in shorts, while that is showing more then your ankles. That is why I say it is hypocrite. Hold yourself to the "dresscode" or not, but not half.

Because the only valid reason to say that a piece of clothing that is not part of the uniform cannot be worn is safety. If there's no safetly risk, there's no problem.
Which should mean EVERYBODY should wear one, or everybody should not.

Do you feel the same about gloves?

Since when are gloves part of a religious dress code, or used as such? And in which religion?

They're an optional part of the uniform.

What is your point exactly? :?

I was told by a Muslim girl that the hijab is worn as a sign of respect to God.

Yep. So is a Burqua.

Some players wear gloves, others don't. Same with what's worn under the uniform - some wear long sleeves, some wear short sleeves.

It is part of the uniform. I don't see your point. Anything that is part of the uniform can be worn.

A Hijab is not part the uniform. It is not listed in the specifics of the FIFA.

I don't know about caps, but the rules specify shorts. No skirts. And do we know for sure that these muslim girls aren't wearing tights under their shorts? I think I've seen that before...

In soccer, they do. But if they can play soccer in Hijabs, they can play field hockey in Hijabs too. Girls and ladies where skirts in fielshockey...

I just why SOME girls want to wear it, and other muslim girls don't. Not every muslim girl on the field wants to wear one...

I remember my tomboy neighbour girl had to start wearing one in daily life... She always wore pants, played soccer, climbed trees, that kinda stuff. Ever since she started menstruating (which is the day they start wearing them), she didn't climb trees anymore, wore long coats instead of the sporty jackets she used to wear. I hated to see her change and become miserable. Everybody can tell me it is "a sign of respect to God", I think "He" would be happier if she was happy.

But you said it should be all or none, Brenda. Why do you make an exception for gloves but not fro a hijab?

What difference does this make to you?

No Lily, you don't fool me here.

FIFA made gloves part of the uniform. The same with protectors for the shins. You can choose to wear them, just as the gloves. Hijabs are no part of the uniform as the FIFA states it.

Please, don't try anymore sideroads okay? I saw this one coming ;-)

No, who's saying every Muslim girl on the field has to wear one? I've seen the whole range of coverings in Canada except for the Burqa. It's a personal choice.

One more time:

Vancouver Sun
Published: Wednesday, February 28, 2007

FIFA, which has worked at promoting women's soccer in Muslim countries, and which devotes an entire section of its website to anti-racism and anti-discrimination, doesn't ban religious or non-religious headscarves, provided they don't represent a danger to players.

Indeed, FIFA even includes pictures of players wearing head coverings to clarify what is permitted, and states that head gear made of soft, lightweight, padded material is not dangerous and is therefore permitted.

Exactly. They can choose not to wear it too, because it is not part of the uniform. But they don't do that. The ones that want to wear it, and are someway not allowed, are yelling they are discriminated against. And that is bull. Hypocritical bull ;-)

Yes Lily, I have. Have you seen my reaction to them?

Does it mean I have to agree? No, it doesn't.

Another thing, this girl wore her "daily life Hijab". That is NOT a sports Hijab. See the difference?

Have you seen the pics I posted of them? BEFORE Hyack posted the FIFA thing?

That is what I have been saying all the time! It is a personal choice, so no reason to yell discrimination over if you get disqualified! You can choose to NOT wear it too!

WTF!

No, you can't if you feel that means compromising your faith.
