It isn't so much that they like China, it's that they hate the West.

Here goes another excuser of the Chinese oppressors.

Yes, it's us western types that make the Chinese stick lead and GHB in toys. I think Mattel actually asked for extra lead this time.

Why do all you lefties like China so?

So you are implying that the "Chinese oppressors" marched down to the bead factory and put GHB in the toys? Maybe you should get over there a soldier them up something fierce!

Mattel has to accept responsibility for what happens in its factories. You're an idiot if you think there was anything sinister going on with lead in the toys. They used shitty, cheap paint because Mattel is over there to produce shitty, cheap toys.

Oh, direction on who to fight from Johnny-run-away student.

Another fine product brought to you by foreign firms taking advantage of lax regulation in China.

Then prohibit imports from China. You solve two problems that way: no more crappy and dangerous products coming to your country and no more profits for a greedy corporation.

It's a fact that many (if not most) of the recalls were due to bad design, which is Mattel's fault.

They admitted it, EyeBrock, so you're just looking silly but ignoring that.

None of Mattel's designs specified lead paint in their toys.

For that matter, why hasn't anybody raised the question of what the hell is China making lead paint for anyway?

The products from China are defective for one of two reasons:
Either there was a bad design decision made, either a mistake or something done to reduce cost
Or the manufacturing process cut corners or didn't have the proper quality control methods.

It is not up the factory to decide what materials go into a product, that is the job of the design office. If the factory substituted safe chemicals for unsafe ones then sure, blame them. If they were told to use this stuff, then blame the people at head office

Well that certainly is the solution if we're willing to pay the cost through higher prices. We aren't. So Mattel goes to China.

And the Crown Vic's designs didn't call for gas tanks that were exploding under mild rear-end collision. Yet that's what resulted.

As far as the paint, who knows where it came from? Maybe it was 20 years old and they got a good deal.

In Chinese culture the victim is supposed to accept some responsibility to help save some face for the perpetrator, especially if the victim is smaller and in an inferior position(according to the Chinese the rest of the world holds that position). Hence, Mattel accepted some of the blame for the shitty products coming out of their factories.

Like you said, Mattel accepted some of the blame for the shitty products coming from their factory. Why shouldn't they? It's their product, they have to be accountable. I fail to see how it's a "Chinese" problem.

It is a Chinese problem thusfar, that they make it, and maybe that should stop. I don't care if it is a Canadian, American, or German factory, it is made in China.

I think, personally, if we want our toys to be safe, the Chinese factories that export or deliver to North America or Europe, or where ever, should have that standards. Not the Chinese standards. If they can't do that, close the damned factories.

If you cannot get the products, there will not be a health hazard too. This is just not acceptable. Period.
