Can we have a fish on it, a BC salmon or something, so we can call it a "Fin"?! its important we keep our puns (loony with a loon, toony worth two) it's a part of Canadian tradition!

'A Puck'.

Think about it. What's on the back of the $5 bill now?

romanP romanP:
From a current economic standpoint, it does unfortunately make sense. It costs around $6 to make a penny now, and there are around 600 pennies for every person in Canada. You do the math.

SIX BUCKS?!? Really?

Jesus christ, talk about government inefficiency.

According to US Mint figures, it costs them less than a cent to make a penny.

I find this $6 figure hard to believe.

You mean to say that spending $120 billion to circulate pennies doesn't sound reasonable? Rubbish!

This is what was reported by the Ottawa Citizen a couple of months ago, in an article talking about getting rid of the penny.

Before we know it, it will be like the Middle Ages again with coin purses and bags of gold...this coin madness needs to stop!

Do away with the stupid 1 cent coin. It is meaningless to have now just like how other coins such as half cent, quarter of a cent and 16th of one have long disappeared. I can't even think of the last time I actually bought something even with a 1 cent coin. I never carry them around either and they get thrown in a jar at home. I'm sure many people are doing the same and this leads to the mint having to make more to put in circulation just so you can get your change back to throw in your jar.
