She was a tough lady, and a hard fighter in a little package.

It will be fun though watching the Republicans explain how Scalia's replacement should be left to the next President because of the election phase; but Trump doesn't have to wait because of the election phase.

Tricks Tricks:
rickc rickc:
Scape Scape:
If they pull that stunt then there will be 20 appointments when the Dems get their next at bat. Decorum be dammed.

What stunt? The senate calls the shots on Supreme Court nominations. End of story. Supreme Court Justices serve for life. There would have to be 20 Justices die or step down for there to be 20 nominations. The GOP has been selecting fairly young conservative Justices. The odds are in favor of them ruling the court for a very, very long time now.

How quickly you forget Merrick Garland.

Mitch McConnell Mitch McConnell:
The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice, therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.

Mitch McConnell Mitch McConnell:
I can now confidently say the view shared by virtually everybody in my conference, is that the nomination should be made by the president the people elect in the election that’s underway right now. I believe the overwhelming view of the Republican Conference in the Senate is that this nomination should not be filled, this vacancy should not be filled by this lame duck president…The American people are perfectly capable of having their say on this issue, so let’s give them a voice. Let’s let the American people decide. The Senate will appropriately revisit the matter when it considers the qualifications of the nominee the next president nominates, whoever that might be.

Mitch McConnell Mitch McConnell:
The Senate will continue to observe the ‘Biden rule’ so that the American people have a voice in this momentous decision on who to name to the court

Mitch McConnell Mitch McConnell:
It seems the more we hear from Democrats about the Supreme Court the more we’re reminded by comparison of how reasonable and common-sense the Republican position is today.

Mitch McConnell Mitch McConnell:
One of my proudest moments was when I looked at Barack Obama in the eye and I said, ‘Mr. President, you will not fill this Supreme Court vacancy,

Keep voting in trash though.

Pointing out the hypocrisy of Republicans is pointless. They’re well aware that they’re hypocrites, and that this is the exact opposite of what they claimed to believe previously with Garland. They don’t care. The Republican party doesn’t have any values or principles, They just do whatever they feel like in the moment and then make up excuses and phoney arguments to justify it after the fact.

Exactly. Fuckface McConnel will stand on the senate floor and argue that the vacancy needs to be filled now! and he will do it with a smile on his face as he revels in the hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy is a virtue to fascists.

America is in need of serious constitutional reform on multiple fronts - it’s falling behind the developed world. Term limits for SC judges would be reasonable and/or a mandatory retirement age. Obviously, the appointment process needs to be less hysterically partisan than it is now. They also have a deeply weird system of directly electing many state judges down there that runs against the whole principle of an impartial judicial process.

$1:

Republicans know that most Americans don’t vote for them so they are looking to the Electoral College, the Senate and the SC to retain power. If this is allowed to continue along the course set, the US is heading for minority white Christian rule.

Democrats raised more than $50 million in the hours after Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death, demonstrating how the liberal icon's passing and the contentious nomination fight that lies ahead have already galvanized the party's base.

The jaw-dropping sum was raised by 4 p.m. Saturday after news of her death broke late Friday, according to a donation ticker on the website of ActBlue, the party's online fundraising platform.

The 2020 campaign, which will decide control of the White House and the Senate, had already delivered record-shattering fundraising totals for the Democrats, a sign of the motivation within the party to rebuke President Donald Trump on Election Day.

Good. I hope Mitch passes a new nom in under 45 days. Nothing will seal the GOP fate faster.

Why would it? Moscow Mitch and the GOP have broken every democratic norm there is and have been rewarded for it every time.

The only hope is that GOP senators in tough reelection fights come out against a vote before the election. Then they'll just ram a judge through in the lame duck session in Nov./Dec.

From a campaign donation standpoint this is mana from heaven. This is crossing the Rubicon level of hubris. Nothing will drive out the undecided and the democratic base more.

So you're completely fine with Senate republicans not allowing a new Supreme Court Justice to be picked in an election year when they weren't in charge, only to turn around and allow it a month and a half right before what is likely going to be one of the most contentious elections in history? Keeping in mind they refused to do it for 7 MONTHS last time.

Cool. Cool cool cool. Lets vote in some more hypocrisy. Your country is a fucking joke.

What hypocrisy? The President of the United States nominates candidates for the Supreme Court. The Senate calls ALL the shots on the nomination process. The Senate decides whether to proceed. The Senate confirms or rejects nominations. Its that simple. What is so hard to understand about that? The party that controls the Senate controls the Supreme Court nomination process. The Senate has not filled a Supreme Court vacancy in an election year when there was a divided government since 1888. That is a long time. Long before any of us were born, so lets not pretend that the whole Merrick Garland thing is a new thing created by the GOP. Divided government, election year, no Supreme Court confirmation. Long track record. 132 years to be exact. Divided government being the catch phrase here. There is no divided government now. The GOP controls the White House and the Senate. They are free to proceed with the confirmation process.

Senator Reid and the democrats were the first to use the nuclear option to kill a filibuster. Now its going to bite them in the ass. What goes around, comes around. They made their bed, let them lay in it. What is hypocritical about that? What is up with the insults and why are you taking this so personal? LOL! I do not recommend a political career for you if you get this worked up about politics in another country.
