Almost as weird as making a journalist your finance minister or a graphic artist your minister of health. [huh]

You shouldn't diss O'Toole's Shadow Cabinet like that, they may revoke your 'Good Conservative' card.

They already did when I fought vehemently against electing the current Red Tory. And, if O'Toole gets elected and picks the same type of unqualified people to fill the position of Finance Minister and Health Minister because of gender and lack of a backbone then I'll rail against those appointments to.

Most economists would be terrible finance ministers. The person in this job has to deliver bad news to the PM, their colleagues and the country on a regular basis and manage myriad competing interests. It’s a task way beyond simple number-crunching.

We're not talking Finance Minister here. O'Toole's qualification to be Climate Minister is who can say 'Scrap the Carbon Tax' loudest....

So the Harvard Degree / Rhodes Scholar things mean nothing to you?

Nothing when they drift from their chosen fields.

The first rule of any normal organization is, that to be successful you have to put the best people with the knowledge and expertise into the proper positions and all the degrees and Rhodes Scholarships in the world won't change that. By putting people into positions that they have no relevant experience and expertise is almost always a recipe for failure.

There are two simple reasons these people were selected for the positions and that's their sex and the fact that they will offer no opposition to the PM's policies. But on the plus side Christiya Freeland despite her lack of expertise in the field made Canadian history as the first woman to hold the position of Finance Minister.

But since some people on here are losing their collective minds over my comment allow me to point out that it doesn't matter what a persons beliefs are. If they're put into a position of power that they know sweet fuck all about in hindsight it will be regarded as a mistake and it doesn't matter if it's NOAA or the Liberal Caucus.

What are you basing your diatribe on? Do you have some evidence that previous finance ministers have more relevant experience? Spoiler alert: Harpers finance minister was simply a lawyer if a certain age as Sunny suggested.

Being a cabinet minister has less to do with your Personal experience and more to do with your personal skills. If she had decades of experience in financial industry you’d say she has a conflict of interest which is what you folks said about Morneau.

But conservatives only seem to have an interest in questioning the qualifications of women and visible minorities, men are above suspicion.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:

That's pretty much what a degree from Harvard and being a Rhodes Scholar means. She may have studied Russian and Slavic studies, but the experience gave her a range of skills and prepared her for a great deal of different challenges.

David Legates is a University of Delaware professor of climatology.

So this guy is not qualified, oh okay.

Just because this guy openly denounces current climate science?

But go ahead and worship the unqualified.

Chosen field is mostly irrelevant. A good education may give you insight into a particular subject, but that isn't the only thing you study. It's all the other courses you take that prepare you to deal with almost anything in life.

I took Computer Engineering. But the Chemistry courses I took means I could walk into a place that does industrial laundry and be able to make detergents and surfactants from raw materials. I could take my Physics courses and apply them to building a road, or a building. I take my philosophy and logic courses and apply them here all the time.

None of those are in my 'chosen' field.

And being a 'Minister' means you have deputy ministers who do know their departments, and who you rely on to give you the information you need in order to make the big decisions.

And none of it has to do with gender.

Sunnyways Sunnyways:
Boris Johnson studied Classics at Oxford. Does that make him unfit to be PM? Of course, he turned out to be unfit for other reasons. Maggie Thatcher read chemistry... we could go on.

Angela Merkel was a researcher in Quantum Chemistry.

And where do I state that? And he's Professor of Geography, as well.

He's also a member of the 'Heartland Institute', known for taking Big Oil money to deny climate science.

It's a amazing how a little pocket cash can make people say whatever you want them to.
