Probably time for this country to admit that it isn't a problem that can't be solved as much as it is one that won't be solved because there's too many powerful interests involved that gain too much advantage from the status quo. To wit:

- Laurentian Consensus: existing situation allows them to endlessly virtue signal for their own political advantage, despite the obvious historical evidence that daily living for the Natives has been as horrible under repeat Liberal governments as it ever was under Conservative ones

- Native power structure: keeps the money flowing into their pockets endlessly as by now they've figured out that the best way to profit is through incessant guilt-mongering and race-baiting, something that the credulous (if not outright corrupt) national media is more than willing to go along with; what's going on inside the Native communities themselves in terms of who has the power and what tactics they use to maintain control will never be seriously examined by the Canadian media; just like with the environmental whackos the Native bosses are too much of a vital part of the Canadian-left coalition, of which most of the media also is too, and it's not politically healthy for any journalist to take too much of a look at what's going on in the background as in the inevitable smears of racism that would be aimed at them would basically be a career-ender.

It really is best to put all Native issues into the background of your mind. No point getting too worked up over them because the way it is now with the politics and money flowing in their properly designated directions according to those who run the system is most likely the way it's always going to be.

We give and for the past 70 years have given the natives one hell of alot of money and now Trudeau is on the cusp of giving them even more with no accountability which is tantamount to pouring gasoline on the fire that is native entitlement.

I was a little surprised that the natives spending increase was much more than any other Canadian citizens over that lengthy period of time yet, it apparently still isn't enough to quell the anti Canadian antics by a vocal minority. So, the question becomes, when is enough enough because all we're doing by giving this corrupt leadership is making them rich at our and their constituents expense.

So until the gov't can ensure that the rank and file natives get the money that we're already paying them I don't think it's a great idea to start giving their leadership even more money to spend on themselves.

With the cancellation of the Teck mine, remote FN communities who supported the project are now condemned to decades more of watching their communities stagnate, their people left without employment, decent health services, good schools and all the other benefits that the mine would have provided for their people.

The fact is that there never will be enough money in the Canadian treasury to support the hundreds of native bands that find themselves in this position. Their only source of 'revenue' is the Canadian government.

How about dumping the Indian act, it doesn't work and never will.

Standing solidly in the way of dumping the Act is the AFN. They have no intention of giving up their cushy jobs or seeing more power in the hands of their own people. They along with corrupt band chiefs with no accountability for distribution of federal funds, will not budge an inch in their support of the Indian Act and condemnation of any other change in law that would give individual FNs a say over their own lives.

I completely agree that in spite of the AFN, the act needs to be abolished and land title given to every single band member living on a reserve. This still won't help the thousands of FNs living on remote reserves who do not have any viable source of income except federal funding but it would give them a more powerful voice when ridding themselves of corrupt band chiefs and councils.

Good post, Thanos though I do wonder how it could possibly be racist for a journalist/reporter to report on the thoughts of individual FNs on the reserve who otherwise have no voice and whose concerns about the leadership of their reserves continues to go untold. What is keeping those with dissenting opinions silent is the heavy fist of the rabid native activists who are steadfast in their silencing of any voice that does not fall in line with activist ideology. An ideology that has no concern for their people rather it concerns itself with issues that will only continue to keep the people in impoverished conditions.
