But lets not let the fact that the guy is an unrepentant remorseless offender stop people from defending him because of the scary gays.

Or the fact is questioning the law itself that allows such a ridiculously long sentence.
Gotta keep the jails full.

If the guy has been convicted of two prior felonies and states "that there was nothing the judge could do to stop him from continuing this behavior, and that he would continue to do this, no matter what."

This kind of person is precisely who prisons are for.

Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy:
Explain to me why burning the American flag is considered by some to be a valid statement of displeasure with someone or something while burning a LGBTQ2 flag is now considered a crime?
Because it wasn't his. Pretty simple. If I burn Bart's American flag, I'm committing a crime. If I buy a flag and burn it I'm not.

And, what individual owns the LGBTQ2 flag anymore than what individual owns the American flag.
You can't possibly be that obtuse.

$1:
But, to be honest the only reason this idiot got sentenced to 16 big ones was because he was stupid enough to burn a LGBTQ2 flag in the current politically correct supercharged climate, while being a habitual offender.
Yes it is. The same way that if a Klansman burned someone's cross, they'd get hit with an increased punishment.

I may well be obtuse when it comes to "other symbols" but, if I am it's in much the same way that other people are obtuse about cheering the destruction of their countries national symbols.

You claim he was sent to jail for 16 years because he burned someone else's property, fair enough but I seriously doubt that was the real reason he got such a ridiculously long sentence. He actually went to jail because if brains were trains this idiot wouldn't have had enough to get to Cedar Rapids. So let's be realistic here. He was punished for his previous indiscretions and the flag burning while wrong wasn't the actual cause of his problems.

But, I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why burning a "gay pride" flag is so much worse than burning your countries "National Symbol"?

It isn't. It just offends a different group of people.

Adolfo Martinez, 30, of Ames, was found guilty last month of third-degree arson in violation of individual rights — hate crime, third-degree harassment, and reckless use of fire as a habitual offender.
Explain to me why burning the American flag is ...
That is tricky.
I reckon after being indoctrinated into a religion/state whereby your kids are forced to grab eachother's crotches/hearts and say "I pledge allegiance to .... blah blah blah..." and then to learn that it is all a sick joke organized by the sickest of the sick amongst yous, you would want to burn the striped flag too.
