The tighty-righties making excuses for some inbreds in the hills of Kentucky marrying children isn't much of a surprise. They share the same politics so with cretinous slack-jawed yokels like that so they're merely holding their noses and looking away in order to keep their big tent o' kooks together and keep winning elections. The laugh I get out of this is from the liberals who fall all over themselves in a rush to make excuses for Islam. Left-wing thinking gave us the immigration disaster of the last fifty-odd years, where hostile demographics that would simply never fit in to Western society were let in en masse, consequences be damned. This then results in the spectacle of wildly conservative Islamic groups arriving here and bringing their detestable beliefs about the natural place of women and children with them, something that one would normally think Western liberals would vehemently oppose. But they don't oppose it. They ignore things like old perverts marrying children and other assorted things these sects believe in (genital mutilation of young girls, honour killings, demands for sharia courts, etc) simply in order to call anyone opposed to this a racist. And playing the racist card to liberals is simply too tempting, too much of an addiction, for them to ever give up.
Oh, BTW, treating women and children like possessions that the great adult males can treat like slaves, or like cattle, or like garbage, isn't in spite of religion. It's always been a major feature of religion, especially the three big monotheisms. There's no way around it.
