Umm, no, I can tell the difference. One of my meds is generic and is no where near as effective as the brand name version.

Might be placebo effect.

In order to be certified as a generic it has to have the same active ingredients in the same quantities, enter the bloodstream in the same manner and have the same clinical effects.

That said there’s some *anecdotal * suggestion that if you’re constantly switching back and forth between different equivalent meds (doesn’t matter if they’re brand or generic or both) , then some meds that deal with brain chemistry like antidepressants might be less effective or less consistent. This has nothing to do with brand being superior to generic or vice versa it has to with the switching and the brain constantly trying to play catch-up. And not everyone agrees that there’s actually a change in these cases, it could all just be psychosomatic.

I'm with Beaver here. Facts are facts, and generics are identical to the brand names. Often times they're even made in the same factory.

With that said though, sometimes the pharmacy or insurance company will substitute an "equivalent" drug. For example Omeprazole vs Nexium. Isomers of one another, but in some people they don't work the same way. If that's the case, ask your doctor or look it up to make sure they aren't giving you an equivalent rather than true identical generic.
Also, you can choose which generic brand you want. My wife used to have to use a medicine patch, and the glue was different on the Sandoz version compared to the Teva so we just made them give us Teva.

Ditto. The problem I have with my company plan is that I always buy the same few prescriptions, and they never cost the same. Sometimes I pay nothing, sometimes it's $120.

Pretty tough to budget for, given the wild fluctuation.

I'm lucky, the meds I currently need only cost $3. Which is amazing.

Medicine is a necessity, plain and simple.
There's a reason we regulate every necessity of life. Corporations can literally charge you anything they want, and you'll have to pay it because it's a necessity. Having a healthcare system without pharmacare is like giving an iPhone to someone with no access to electricity or a cell network.

My opinion has always been Medicare in all its forms should be free or at least very, very inexpensive. Health is a basic necessity to life, and should not be commoditized.

Too bad Trudeau didn't fix First Past the Post voting

There is nothing wrong with FPTP, and it's a proven system. I'm getting tired of people who don't see the election results they had hoped for, then blame FPTP. I wasn't happy with the results of the last federal election (to say the least), but didn't start crying about FPTP and this ridiculous need by crybabies to change it.

FPTP is only proven to not reflect the will of the voters. Majority governments can be decided by a minority of the population. Not "democratic".

Many countries have adopted Proportional Representation to reflect this problem.

Sure it's fine if you'd like one of two major parties to always lead. Proportional representation would allow for more voices to be heard... I think PR would work because Canada is so expansive and Canadians are not all Liberal//Conservative/Dipper/Green/PQ/PPC. Most of us are pretty pragmatic in our views. I'm pretty Liberal/NDP/Green on some topics and pretty Conservative/PPC on others. I don't at all consider myself a liberal or a conservative or anything else for that matter.
