Umm, no, I can tell the difference. One of my meds is generic and is no where near as effective as the brand name version.
Might be placebo effect.
In order to be certified as a generic it has to have the same active ingredients in the same quantities, enter the bloodstream in the same manner and have the same clinical effects.
That said there’s some *anecdotal * suggestion that if you’re constantly switching back and forth between different equivalent meds (doesn’t matter if they’re brand or generic or both) , then some meds that deal with brain chemistry like antidepressants might be less effective or less consistent. This has nothing to do with brand being superior to generic or vice versa it has to with the switching and the brain constantly trying to play catch-up. And not everyone agrees that there’s actually a change in these cases, it could all just be psychosomatic.
I'm with Beaver here. Facts are facts, and generics are identical to the brand names. Often times they're even made in the same factory.
With that said though, sometimes the pharmacy or insurance company will substitute an "equivalent" drug. For example Omeprazole vs Nexium. Isomers of one another, but in some people they don't work the same way. If that's the case, ask your doctor or look it up to make sure they aren't giving you an equivalent rather than true identical generic.
Also, you can choose which generic brand you want. My wife used to have to use a medicine patch, and the glue was different on the Sandoz version compared to the Teva so we just made them give us Teva.
