The comments via Facebook on the Calgary Herald/SUN and Edmonton Journal are a great place to get an idea of what the "base" in Alberta is like - the left-wingers in BC are just as awful too, judging by some of what gets posted on the Vancouver Sun site. What's being said at those papers is just as bad & dispiriting as what's said on any site that has Disqus comments, or the comments on CBC. Just ignorant, ugly, angry, and really mean-spirited. All in all, given the nature of the current times, it's exactly what you'd expect in commentary from people who "go with their gut" instead of with their brain. Another bit of Canadian hypocrisy that deserves a good deflating because judging by those comments we're no better than the crazies and vicious clods that post at places like Breitbart, Gateway, or FOX Nation. I'm ashamed as an Albertan to share the same living space with creatures like that.

I know we have enough fights here that get out of control, and I've been unapologetically involved in a lot of them. That being said the level of commentary here at CKA remains far superior in quality, knowledge, and tone than anything via Disqus or Facebook. We're the cream of the crop, no matter what side we're on, compared to those places.

Born in Oakville, son of a Fighter Pilot and a Teacher. Raised in Wilcox SK. Lots of arts in the family, doesn't sound like any "salt of the earth" folks in his family. I doubt he would know what a Norfolk four-course system is.

Judging from his contradictory fiscal policies I am beginning to wonder if Kenney knows anything about anything. This is not particularly surprising if you read his bio. The closest he has ever come to a real job is his work for the Alberta and Canadian Tazpayers' Associations. Basically he is a professional politician.

Yeah, nothing good ever comes from the policy wonks who were deep in the conservative Canadian think-tanks of the 1990's. Preston Manning was a fairly decent person but I doubt he ever had any dirt under his fingers a single day in his life, which made his views on both government and business suspect. Plus Kenney was deep in cahoots way back then with that clique of troublemakers from Reform like Rob Anders, Logan Day, Rahim Jaffer, and Ezra Levant. Those guys are the last ones to take advice from on ANYTHING, much less on how to operate an efficient & effective government.

I'm convinced Kenney will win, and win big. I'm also equally convinced that absolutely nothing good will come from it at all. All that will happen will be the twin problems of both the social conservatives and Alberta pseudo-MAGAs throwing their weight around and, as per endless examples of what happens in the US when those kind of people take control, it will be a catastrophe.
