llama66 llama66:
Its the result of some egghead over engineering a simple mechanism.

It's the result of some egghead thinking that his computer is a better pilot than an actual pilot....and what you said.

Reading this and with what Robair said about the stall warning system.... WTF is wrong with people. IF something works Why mess with it and screw it up this badly. Egghead who came up with this won't even be found out to put the blame or at least partial blame on for this MAJOR screw up.

Actually, you are both wrong.

This is caused because executives made a decision in the name of cost, and assumed that the eggheads software would overcome any ramifications of the decision.

From Robair's source:

$1:
Boeing added MCAS after redesigning its 737 platform for the Max. The redesign changed the size and placement of the aircraft’s engines, which altered how the jet handled in flight.

This decision would have never been made by an egghead, only an executive (a high up one) would have the power to make this call.

I disagree. An Executive did not design the MCAS system... an engineer did. An Aerospace Architect designed the aircraft with the MCAS system, and another aerospace engineer would have agreed. The Executive just approved the design and ordered it into production. Remember a lot of these Executives were not necessarily from the aerospace industry, many are MBA's who know how to run companies. They wouldn't know the first fucking thing about aircraft.

Scope, design limits, and failure rates/limitations of the project are all determined by execs. The engineers and egg heads make it happen.

Execs also sign off on any criteria that is borderline, usually (hopefully) on case by case basis.

I want a bail out of 3.5 Million. Think the Gov would do that for me. Why in the hell do we keep bailing out these companies. I know it's a huge economic issue with peoples jobs and towns being economically healthy. Yet at the same time business fail every day. If a few of the big ones fail we might get more businesses to take their place and thus they would be more competitive. This IMO would help growth and productivity far more then bailing out Giant companies that will need bailing out again in 15-20 yrs.

Same here, I have thousands of hours in sailplanes, you learn how to actually hear a stall condition.
