Assume everything has a microphone going forward.
That was the crux of the problem. Their entire security line did have a microphone, but they failed to include the mic in the spec sheet. All of them.

I'm not quite sure why we are talking about the thermostat or protect products though. All of the sources only find a mic in the Secure product, which is a different add on.
People didn't know that the 'Nest' line sent information back to Google. Nest was in people's homes before Google bought it, and they changed some things in the process.

Google has had other privacy concerns, such as always tracking Android phones even when you turn tracking off. That doesn't inspire confidence when Nest says they don't share data with Google.
