Come to think of it, if this is such a small thing it's not worth bitching about why was it such a priority to do it in the first place?
The dies have to be replaced on a regular schedule. The politicos figured out, a very long time ago I might add, that these die change overs can be used for scoring a couple votes with zero cost to the political establishment.
Feel good move for free votes while doing something they have to do any way.
Actually that's a good point. I hadn't thought about the die changes.
They've done several "special" type loonies already and they do it with quarters all the time it seems. I don't even really pay much attention anymore as once you get used to seeing a certain design it loses it's novelty. The only time I do pay attention is with pre-1968 quarters and dimes as the silver content is worth more than the face value so these ones I keep and they are so easy so spot.
