$1:
Trump wants to clear more trees to halt fires

Good policy! Even with the fucking softwood duties we're making a killing. Highest prices ever! We'll make even more and he'll convince his minions he's WalMart saving them money. In reality, your lumber outfits OWN the timber lands there and they won't burn shit, he'll have to increase burning on Federal lands. Watch your national parks sacrificed for corporate profits!

Here politicizing fires is the talk show bullshit that every one labelled 'human caused' was drunken idiots on ATVs flinging cigarette butts left right and center through the bush. Hell lately they're trying to say it's joints dropped by all the potheads smoking up in the woods.

Well the people across the street evacuated themselves, so smoky today the Band is paying for their motel and lodging because she's got COPD and the kid's and Gramma have asthma. Hubby stayed he has to work, he and I were joking how we'd leave when the fire came down THIS SIDE of the mountain on THIS SIDE of the lake!
She works at the mine and they not only granted her temporary leave but first two days paid! Nice move.
And as their kid is the grand daughter's bff - she wheedled going with them after I spent ALL yesterday getting her here. Evac'd all expense paid to where there's a fair, an aquatic center, movies and malls vs visit Nanna and choke...

Hope every ends up ok.

It’s Smokey as all get out down here on the coast and it’s nasty. Not as nasty as elsewhere mind you. My in laws in a Williams Lake have been dealing with an air quality index of 10 while it’s only up to 6 in my neck of the woods. Hopefully, it doesn’t get any worse cause last year my asthma made an unwelcome return because of the smoke and I don’t want a repeat of that.

The fires must have picked up bad again in the last couple of days because it's overcast smoke in Calgary again. The last two days were sort of OK but now we're back to the murk from the smoke. Can't even see downtown right now from the top of a hill about seven KM to the west that normally has a good view.

All day long phone, texts, posts from people. Lots of offers to come stay at their place in Prince George and urging us to run. Appreciated but everyone getting similar calls has many panicking instead of preparing for the IF... even the old lady.
The most immediate danger is IF the fire gets to the highway (20 kms more to go) then there's no easy way out, supplies won't get in and they'll force an evac. The gossipers will be the first to find out, cuz if the fibre by the highway melts there'll be no Facebook, texts or long distance calls just like that. If it crosses to the other side, no power either.
Here's an interesting shot: the setting sun peeking between the mountaintops and the smoke layer and the trees down the street with the smoke background look like a stage light effect!

That's actually worse. :(

If half our province is under thick smoke, then half of theirs is burning. 8O

Our air worse than Beijing's

$1:
Air quality across much of B.C. is worse than in one of the world's most notoriously polluted cities.

As wildfire smoke blankets the province, the air we're breathing is more dangerous to your health than in Beijing, China.

Air quality advisories remain in place for the entire Okanagan as well as Metro Vancouver.

Fine particulate matter, or PM2.5, is the main concern, and air quality has continued to be rated at a 10+ or high risk across much of Southern B.C..

"You can definitely feel it in your nose and in your lungs," construction worker Nathan Joe told CTV on Tuesday in North Vancouver.

PM2.5 refers to particles 2.5 micrometres or less in diameter that can make it into your lungs.

A healthy level is considered 25 or below, but on Wednesday morning, Kelowna's rating was 155. Beijing's was 59.

The poor air quality is most likely to affect the elderly, young or those with chronic health conditions.

"We're all inhaling these things, and so we all have to sort of monitor how we're feeling and know ourselves and work with our doctors to figure out what's best for us when the air quality gets like this," says Dr. Mark Lysyshyn of Vancouver Coastal Health.

I believe it. I just wish my camera phone captured the reds and greys in the sky like I see them.

Still no sign of that mythical 'sun'.
