herbie herbie:
Dammit, I just listed the cabin at Green Lake a couple weeks ago and here we go again!

Keep an eye on the weather, herbie - they are calling for severe thunder and lightning storms in the Cariboo later on today.

Mowich Mowich:
Well here we go again. We in the Hawkins Lake and Eagle Creek area have just been issued an Evacuation Alert due to the Lang Lake fire which is deemed out of control. We are to be prepared to leave with possibly limited notice.

Oh no.

Here too, the other side of Stuart Lake where I used to live is under evac alert, including Paarens Beach and Sowchea Provincial Park. The Fraser Lake fire exploded in size the last couple days.
WOrried about the cabin, just went down there and cleaned up the lot some, noticed how the goddam trees were within 10 ft of the cabin, dead moss hanging on them. Sister's been looking after the place and I told her to get it logged (figure there's $10-$15K standing wood on that tiny lot) 10 years ago when the bugs went thru. Brother in law felled a half dozen of the worst trees, left them laying there. One dropped match, one hot ash - all gone.

IT'S RAINING!!!!!! For well over an hour now - a nice steady downpour. Hope they are getting it at Green Lake too, herbie. This will most certainly slow the advance of the Lang Lake fire and hopefully give firefighters a chance to get some containment. Saw lots of equipment going up the highway today and there were choppers and water bombers too. I am thanking the Universe in a big way tonight.

Here’s hoping it’s an all day rain for both of you. Hopefully the stupid people will stay home. Can’t believe anyone is stupid enough to have fires when everything is so tinder dry. They should really up the fines. Maybe add in some billing options if the fire starts a major fire. Fueling planes is not cheap not to mention the other heavy equipment.

Didn't rain further north, the Shovel Lake fire expanded again yesterday to over 30000 hectares, the fire's reached the fishing lakes I used to take the kids to /12 an hour up the Cunningham FR. At 11:00 they expanded the alert area here to include the Nakazdli reserve and the municipality of Fort St James.
"Alert" means to make a plan and get prepared sort of Defcon 2, cuz the next level is get the hell out now.
The fire's at high ground now and the wind is fortunately blowing smoke away, but a change could start downhill burns.
As for the cabin, I notice 70 Mile House and S Green Lake are also under evac alerts, but at the moment I have bigger things to worry about like our home and pets.

Keeping spirits up by joking how
that's one way to get rid of that old truck,
at least that asshole real estate agent won't make commissions,
I'm all packed and ready, but don't expect me to wake him/her up,
anywhere we get evac'd to at least will HAVE a McDonalds,
the wife will stay and defend her flowers with the garden hose, etc

Oh crap herbie. :(

Hopefully it doesn't come to evac being necessary. Hoping for the best for you as well.

I had noticed yesterday when looking at the BC wildfire map that a new fire started just south of where my cousin and her husband have their farm and the evac area mentioned included up to their road. I heard back from my aunt this morning that they were briefly evacuated but have been allowed back as that end of the fire is at the moment contained.

Just looked at what's happening in Québec and it's not much... but I've got a question, when they say that a forest fire is "under observation", are they hoping that it will burn out by itself? :?

Hope everything goes well for you, Herbie.

The big worry is it cuts the Hwy27, then there's no way out. That would burn THE cables and goodbye power, cell service, internet....
Tomorrow I'm committed to driving all the way to Houston thru the smoke to pick up the granddaughter and bring her back here. No more Greyhound anymore to even send her home from where she is!
