So if I've got this right there was no perpetrator of a hate crime and no real crime committed except the one the girl committed by:

The majority you recall, have turned out to be false. Hate crimes against most minorities have been increasing, including Jews, Blacks, and Asians. And they do not make the news, but still are investigated by police. I don't believe you've reviewed them all.

My point was exactly the opposite, we should not rush to dismiss this girl, because she might actually be telling the truth. Assuming she was telling the truth is the right option, assuming she is lying isn't. One of those furthers the anti-muslim stereotype, the other is simple compassion.

I'm sure other kids have done similar things this year, and they weren't Muslim. The only reason we heard about this incident was because she was Muslim.
