If you even used your Credit or Debit card at Target, The Gap, Home Depot, Michaels Amusements, then you've probably been pwned. If you have accounts at Monster.com, Walmart, AOL, LinkedIn, then you've probably been pwned. If you have rewards cards at Safeway, or many other retailers, you've probably been pwned.

And those are just the ones they admitted to! I bet there are triple that number done by insiders that have never been reported. Because they didn't legally have to report it. :|

One of the emails I sometimes use was listed at netteller.
Never used netteller, thought it got shutdown years back.

I think it was all. IIRC, someone hacked the air conditioning company they used, and used the route to infect all of their cash tills with a trojan. All card swipes on their tills sent the info to the hackers.

I think they were also breached, and had their customer DB stolen. Might have been Target though.

Yup - the HVAC systems were connected to the Home Depot network and then they also had an open WiFi link that was meant for technicians to be able to diagnose issues without having to climb up on rooftops.

Brilliant.

It's like trusting public WiFi networks at airports etc. Sure it's convenient but it comes with a price.

These days whenever a big company tells you that you're getting something for 'free' the fact of the matter is that YOU are the product they're selling.

It's the same buying a used computer off E-Bay, you have no idea what's in it.

Everything's in it!

I won't even use a brand new one until all the shit is wiped off of it. In goes the USB stick, zap partitions, in goes Windows. JUST Windows.

Linux. Then VMWare workstation for Linux. Then a Windows VM on top of that. ;)

Like the one I'm using, right now!

Too geeky. Who wants to even think about VMs, wrappers, CLIs when you can get free infected movies, McCrappy security, Driver Defective, your home page set to WARNING!!! and search engine changed to infectionrus.pl with just one click?

Been away from servers for 3 years now, got tired of figuring out how to make my USB wireless stick work on xubuntu 17.04, just went back to 16.04LTS. Used to compulsively try every upgrade to every flavour as soon as it was realeased...

Now I get to deal with seniors like myself... but is it SAFE to order ink online? sez the guy with all the 'shortcuts to' poker and porn sites covering his desktop....

Docker 'containers' would just blow your mind. ;)

A server that does a specific task, and is created dynamically when you need it then goes *poof* when it's not needed. 8)
