Whether or not the treatment would have worked, you'd think that the parents are and should be the ones making the call. The doctors may not like it, but they shouldn't be able to prevent Charlie's parents from making that choice, much less refuse to let them take him home.

Yes Jared, and that's actually the central point of the objection.
Ultimately, the doctors are accountable to only one person - the patient - and in this case, prolonging his pain and agony so his parents get a few more days/weeks with him isn't fair to Charlie.
