Most of the lumberyards and mills are US owned. The struggle is not about the lumber, its because the Crown refuses to sell the land the trees are on.

To US lumber companies, of course.

It's your land. Renegotiate NAFTA and hold firm on that.

That's the reason Softwood and Dairy aren't in NAFTA right now. ;)

Then insist that they're in the next version of it. This renegotiation thing is a two way street and it's only fair that Canada gets a better deal for Canada, too.

That's actually the reverse of our strategy. Keeping Dairy and Softwood out of NAFTA allows us to maintain control of those industries.

There are many things on both sides of the border that NAFTA does not cover. And that's a good thing! I'm sure the US doesn't want corn or cotton subsidies included, because Mexico has always hated them.

But we've decided that this agreement isn't working for us and either we renegotiate it or we withdraw from it and settle our trade problems in the WTO.

American's, while excellent at eating themselves to death, don't have a clue what NAFTA is.

Republicans heard a cool acronym during the campaign and without knowing anything about NAFTA, immediately assumed it was bad because the guy with the orange skin said so.

The positive news is that negotiating NAFTA likely won't happen as the scandals and pending impeachment will get in the way.

President Trump is not going to be impeached. It's just not going to happen.

He may or may not get impeached, but nothing is going to get done either way with regards to NAFTA. he is lurching from daily scandal to daily scandal and that is occupying all the administrations time. A renegotiation of NAFTA is the work of months and years. Trump will be gone by then.

Just a matter of time.

He won't be able to muscle people out of their jobs anymore to protect himself or his pals.
