I suppose it could but it seems moot to me. We're speculating about the future. We can predict it'll be any way we want.

I tend to avoid that, specifically for buildings, due to the extremely long implementation time frame new technology takes in the construction industry.

Everything that is being invented today, won't even start to show up in building designs for another 5 years in the 'cutting edge' designs, another 10 years for mainstream (cookie cutter) designs. And that is if we assume the new technology doesn't change the day to day operation of the building. If the design is too different, you can add another 10 years on top of it.
