Interestingly enough I read that the Chinese had flown two nuclear capable bombers over Taiwan just before the Donald's phone call. So, was this a gaffe on his part like the mainstream media wants us to believe or, is it a calculated message sent to the Chinese that it's not business as usual and the big dog still has some bite?
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/12/05 ... ident.htmlMy guess is that it's the latter and the over reaction from the talking heads in the States is because he's not going to play by their preconceived rules when it comes to sending a message about US foreign policy.
It was a little of both. Since the Nixon years the Americans have taken the position that is better and safer to just play nice with China, get in line with their view of Taiwan. Just the fact that China is expanding is a major threat to their neighbours, and once in awhile American jets have flown near these expansions to flex, but no actions of sort are taken. Trump has some advisors on his team who are very pro-Taiwan independence, some even from the Bush era.
Seems the strategy of appeasement isn't working. The Chinese are now expanding their military into the sea, happily stealing jobs and greasing the government by buying debt. About time they are "confronted", or really in this case insulted and or, put on notice. America had best do it now rather than later. Cut off the head of this snake before it gets too powerful and uncontrollable.
I'm not someone who wants war, but I do want tough diplomacy and consequences for those who abuse their authority. Can you imagine the outrage if America were expanding into the ocean? Building military facilities and runways? If China were a democracy, capitalist in nature and committed to world peace, that's one thing, this isn't the case, they are focused on an expanding empire and super power.
I hate to sound like a conspiracist, but this lack of balance from global leaders sure sounds like a world that is happy to see America weaker and their enemies more emboldened.
