Just make 16 the age of consent if this is what you folks want to do. Make them legal adults at that age and then end mandatory education at age 16 as well.

The age of consent, in Canada, is 16.

Changing the age of majority would change when they become 'adults'.

Then change the age of majority to 16.

That way when a 16 year old tells a liberal teacher to go fuck themselves it'll be protected speech and not an 'offense against mah authoritah!'

Well oldguy, I'm sure if a bunch of 18 yr olds got active and took it to Supreme Court they'd find the 19 yr old drinking age to be unconstitutional. But they're not gonna get any donations from anyone but the pisstanks among themselves. Fair or not fair, we all remember what 18 was like and some of us who wasted a good chunk of our lives chugging beer in our 20s are gonna oppose them. It's not like denying them an "opportunity" or anything.
Yeah if they want to vote, they're gonna have to assume the other adult responsibilities that come with 'age of majority'. I don't think most of them even want to.
And I sure can't say what goes on regarding politics in school these days. We were taught about voting, how the municipal, provincial and federal gov'ts work, what scrutineers and delegates do, how you get on the voter list etc. All I know is a tiny portion of 18-30s even bother to vote. Even back in the 1970s most people our age sneered and thought my circle of friends was weird for voting.
