It has nothing to do with Alberta. Generally speaking, our food standards are higher than the US. But apparently not in this specialty market. Also note that Canadian beef comes from other provinces too, this isn't just Alberta bashing.
ALL beef produced in Canada meets humane slaughter standards, but keep pretending you and the other usual suspects have no bias against Alberta.

It depends on what you class as 'humane'. The standard slaughter method now is to slit their throat and hang them upside down while they bleed out. When I was working the kill floor, it was an air activated bolt to the brain. Instant death, as opposed to the slow death from blood loss.
I'd consider the older way much more humane. But there is also the subject of feed lots. I also wouldn't consider an animal's stay in one of those for half it's life to be 'humane'. Nor would I consider it humane that they get fed grain, and are given limited room to move.
Grain, corn and soy are not a normal food for ruminants, it's much like putting a person on an all carb and sugar diet then keeping them in a small room for half their life. Ask a horse owner what happens when you feed a horse too many oats.
'Humane' means different things to different people.
