Only the CBC would bother mentioning anything as inane as this. Hindus and Sikhs mark Diwali. Canada in general does not. And seeing as this is Canada, Remembrance Day comes first and foremost.

If it wasn't for Canadian soldiers fighting for freedom in the two World Wars and elsewhere, these people who celebrate 'Diwali' wouldn't be here, living in a free society, and able to light off a firework and such.

Remembrance Day cannot be put on a backburner for anyone, for any reason.

Lest we forget.

They make up a very sizable community, especially in Vancouver and other cities.

Canadians make up a sizeable community all over Canada.

But I guess that means very little to some people.

Some Canadians celebrate Hanukkah, Diwali, Eid Al-Fitr, Chinese New-Year and even St-Jean-Baptiste.

That's the beauty of being Canadian.

Not the old stock Canadians, they don't. Except I guess St Jean Baptiste, but how Canadian are those Frenchies anyway? Always wanting to separate.

No Hindu or Sikh participation in two world wars? I thought they celebrated Nov. 11. They are entitled to both rememberance and their religion.

I never said either. I believe I said their beliefs take a back seat to Canada.

-J.

Nope. Most of them are pretty decent people and the Sikhs are some of the toughest SOB's in the world that you want on your side in a fight. I've never seen anything anti-Canadian out of either group and they certainly aren't the types to go all-Muslim and try to blow up a commuter train in Toronto or hatch a plot to decapitate the PM. These are the kind of people we need on our side against a worse collective enemy so in the one instance where their ethnic celebration overlaps with our national remembrance we can, and should, shrug it off as no big deal.

Yeah, just that they were responsible for the biggest terrorist attack against Canada, and once in a while they dabble in that south-east Asian homely tradition of honor killings. But hey blowing up planes, killing 329 people or hack to death a few of their women, like you said should just shrug it off as no big deal because it only matters when muzzies do it.

Disclaimer : I gotta nothing but love for my Sikh brothers and sisters, I hail from Punjab too and we just the same people divided by a line in the ground. We the vikings of east, speak the same language, eat the same food, listen to the same music, do the same dance moves even 8)

Most of the Sikh violence came to an end when they reached some kind of settlement with the Indian government. Despite the Air India bombing and the assassinations of the Gandhis the worst of the tensions are over and the Sikh radicals no longer have the influence over their communities that they once had. It was political violence and that type of thing usually comes to an end, just like in Northern Ireland, when some deal is made. That doesn't happen when it's primarily religion based and one religion (like Islam) has no intention of ever leaving outsiders alone in peace.

And the innocence of Muslims? I'll remind myself of that the next time a pimp gang is busted or a drug ring in Fort McMurray is broken up or some serial rapists in Sweden or Germany have a merry little rampage among the local women and all the ones charged will have Mohammed as a name. The only thing that will happen here will be the same old same old with andy and you blaming everything for it except the bastards, and the society they come from, who actually did it.

No shit, but that doesn't address why the Dinali celebration shouldn't be brought up in a News segment.

In the last 10 years, how many fatalities and injuries or victims in Canada or US from regular crime vs "our" crime.

"We" are doing a hell lot of it because "we" are always in the news. How quickly did that story ( and thread here on CKA ) die about the Iowa USMC shooting once it was confirmed the perp was not one of "us".

If it was one of "us", Fuck News would be sitting talking about it and the mouth frothers here would be masturbating on at it here on page 50 of the thread.

I wonder about you and andy with all your talk of circle jerks and masturbation about anyone who holds a contrary opinion to yours. I suspect a little bromance between the unmarried childless Canadian and the "desertdude". 8O

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I could care what holiday Canadians want to celebrate as long as they remember those who sacrificed everything so they could have that freedom.

IMHO, Remembrance Day is the MOST important holiday on the calendar, simply because without it, we might not have the freedom to celebrate all the rest.
