There are all thousands of reasons to collect census data beyond entitlement programs. Opposing the census because of some obscure entitlement programs that you may not be entitled to is opposing running water because it might be given to your pig without your express permission.

And at any rate the entitlements that are only open to a "select ethnic few" mostly exist only in the minds of dusty old bigots, not in the real world.

"No one should get special treatment because of their race or ethnicity". Odd, I thought that kind of thing was a liberal value.

It was a liberal value right up until liberals took charge. Not unlike how freedom of speech used to be an important liberal value right up until they took charge and then started imposing laws that prohibit free speech.

Yeah, it's really just typical the-shoe-is-on-the-other-foot thinking. Liberals are as awesome at seeking petty revenge as anyone else is out there. No matter how much they and their well-kept pets in the national media, just like the way the celebrity media would swoon over a 25 year-old Brad Pitt, keep telling themselves how much bigger their hearts are than everyone else. There was a valid reason why they got knocked down to third place status behind the dreck of the NDP but odds are that they've done some kind of memory-purge and are going to operate just like they did under Chretien. Stephen Harper was just some kind of illegitimate interregnum after all. It certainly had nothing at all to do with the way the Liberals were behaving or with the attitude they'd projected the last time they were in charge.

And of course we all know that the census is written Liberal back room boys, not professional statisticians.

Sure but it'll just look like the Canadian one and if you read the small print it'll likely say courtesy of the NSA.

Beetlejuice.

Thanks for the call Lemmiwinks. And now to Brian Lilley.

Take it away Brian.

Ok so let's go through that, and see what Professor Libertarian wants to give 2 R=UP for.

So according to Brian; Industry minister, Navdeep Bains won't tell us if this new law will mean we go to jail for not filling out the form or not.

Apparently the jail time threat was the big bitch against the long form census originally and the reason it was dumped. The Toronto Sun called dumping the jail threat to the long form census a Conservative "nod to its Libertarian base".

The volunteer National Household Survey that replaced the mandatory long form census had a response rate of about 68.6 %. Authoritarian collectivists want more or best guess is they want to at least threaten you with jail.

Brian listed some of the questions that were on the old Long form census. These are the kinds of questions we suspect authoritarian assholes want to send you to jail for not answering.

The first question requires itemized intrusion into your personal finances. Your income tax form is supposed to cover what was asked there.

Brian makes the point that Liberals were the party opposed to terrorists being harassed by Bill C-51. They didn't want terrorists harassed, but they do want you harassed.

They want to know how many rooms are in your house, what are they for, and how old your house is. What sort of repairs are needed.

Brian doesn't understand why they need to know that. He says the correct answer to that is "None of your damn business."

Now as I understand Libertarianism at it's core its basically "if I'm not bothering you, don't bother me. I'll do me and you do you."

Apparently that's not it. Apparently there's some strange new sort of I don't know what you'd call it... Butt Gerbil-Libertarianism maybe, and it wants authority to make you tell it what you've got and what you're doing with it. And if you won't bow to the authority you go to jail.

The new Butt Gerbil-Libertarians need to do this, you see, so they can social plan your existence into the future. Or at least that's what a guy who tries to sell you he's a Libertarian gives 2 R=UP to.

People are actually complaining, on the internet, about government intrusion into their private lives from the long-form census, of all things. Have they not been paying any attention these last few decades? A quaint old form is the least of our worries.

I believe what I was complaining about was jail time for not submitting to government intrusion.

Authoritarianism - it can be implemented incrementally. Better to protest it every time you see it and hope you win more than you lose.

Remember who you're dealing with now. This guy:
