ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
Funny how the Americans look down on so many Middle Easterners as being a backwards, superstitious lot. They have their own Talibaptists.

This occurred in a public school in Oklahoma and the teacher has now resigned. The school district obviously didn't support what the teacher did and I'd fathom that this was just one in a long line of offenses because just this alone doesn't rise to the level of a termination offense.

It may not have been superstition but merely a well-intentioned attempt to guide a child to what some perceive as a less-difficult lifestyle choice of being right-handed.

If so then this teaches the teachers a lesson for trying to be helpful. Just do your job and don't try to care or else you might be called to account for it.

It was superstition though, and not misguided well intentions. The teacher sent home a note that said that left-handed-ness is "evil", "unlucky", and "of the devil". That's some old-timey superstition right there.

The note is being spun to outrage people like yourself. The actual note sounds like something lifted from Wikipedia.

After seeing the note I can't imagine anyone getting fired over it. It must have been a slow news day.

I'll agree with you that it was probably the last straw, most likely the final bit of sheer stupidity on the part of the teacher in a long series of religion-inspired nonsense and bullying. Don't know why some Talibaptist would want to teach in the secular system anyway. There's lots of religious schools more than willing to turn a blind eye, or even encourage openly batshit behaviour, as the allegedly teachers do their best to fuck up the student's brains for the rest of their lives. We're not talking about Jesuit teachers and schools that are known to turn out brilliant students that change the world either. More like something so daft all it does is turn out barely functional people who believe things like last night's blood moon actually was the final sign of the return of Satan to the Earth and that we'll have to sacrifice all the area homosexuals on an altar to put a stop to the Devil's reign.

That's a great rant but the note isn't really a statement or an assertion of any particular religious belief.

No, it's a terrific rant. Spectacular. Stupendous. Elite. Awesome. And any other sort of fabulous Trump-esque pronoun that can be attached to it.

Just going on what Hitchens put down way better than anyone else ever could. Religion has to sustain itself through fear, where the believer has to be terrified of divine wrath to the point where they won't question the dictates of those who claim to be the spokesmen of the gods. And it starts as early as possible in life with children. Get 'em while they're young, said every cultist leader that's ever lived to taint the face of this earth.
