2Cdo 2Cdo:
Only a fool would take that bet. The problem with Chiarelli is shelf-life. He's good for 4-5 years and then needs to be replaced. Hopefully he can restore some respectability to the Oilers franchise.

Most GMs have a short shelf-life. You have to go by more than teh horse-trading though--that's a big part of the job but it's a hell of a lot of luck. Some people mistake that luck for genius. The other part of the job is putting the systems in place to secure good talent, including a good scouting and development system and creating a culture that will attract the best.

I wonder if they're going to deal any of their young guns. They've had like 5 number one draft picks.

And this is one reason why he is no longer in Boston.

Wonderful move. Regardless of what you think about Chiarelli, he's clearly competent at the very least. And he's a credible new face for the franchise. Finally a break from the past.

Between CHiarelli Nicholson and whoever ends up being the head coach the Oilers are now being run by professionals.

I have no problem with Lowe and MacT being retained in some capacity, as long as they're not making the important decisions. They've both shown a lot of loyalty to the organization and given many years of their lives to it. The fact that they rose beyond their level of competence is sad but not something to hold against them now that it's in the past.

Seems fairly short-sighted of the Bruins to have gassed the guy at all, especially given that the main reason they missed the playoffs this year was because of how badly injuries shredded their defense corps. Eight years, seven playoff appearances, two trips to the finals, and one Cup victory should guarantee someone a job for life. Boston kept Harry Sinden around for decades and he didn't have a record anywhere near that impressive on a year-to-year basis.

Now he's in position to be the guy that could trade both Seguin and Hall.

My nephew played junior with both of them. Pretty much the same hype with McDavid as there was with Hall. The NHL is a different beast................

Hall likes to play bigger than he is but his body breaks, he'd look better on someone elses injury list for 30 to 40 games a year. And you just know he'll turn it around as soon as you trade him.

Hall, straight up for Seabrook, as long as Brent agrees to sign a contract extension with the Oil upon the deal being made. No free agency next year.

I'll let the smart guys iron out the length of the contract.

Q and I were just talking about that the other night. I'm thinking the parking is still gonna suck though. Ah well. Build the arena, hopefully build the team and then we're back in business.
Deep breaths, fingers crossed, happy thoughts...
