All of the restaurants I've been to have English on the menus once you get inside. Just used my nose not the signs to find the good ones.
If you authentic Chinese, the best way to find it is to eat where the Chinese eat themselves. If the place is full of white people, then odds are you're getting sweet and sour chicken balls!

I grew up in East Van/Burnaby. I used to be able to tell you the best places for Chinese, but I moved
beyond Hope decades ago. Nothing here but "railway Chinese" (eggrolls the size of hand grenades, doughballs with mystery meat, chow mein with sliced sandwich meat on top) so I'm lost now.
Our two Chinese friends moved back down there, there are only three families of Chinese descent left in town. Their kids are about as Chinese as I am Italian....
Made friends with a couple who ran a restaurant in Vanderhoof a few years back. She HATED it up here, zero other Asians. He used to complain 'damn cowboys and Indians only want to eat shit' wouldn't even taste the decent food on the menu. They lasted only a little over a year, in a town of 5000 with only one other Chinese place.
