BartSimpson BartSimpson: Clarkson is just playing a role is all.
No, no he isn't, he's enjoying himself too much to be "playing" a role. He may be following a script of some sort but even the BBC couldn't or wouldn't condone some of the bullshit he and the others in Top Gear get themselves into.

xerxes xerxes: Or get divers to police themselves. Andy referenced Germany and how other drivers are up your ass if you're too slow in the left lane. That's a good system to emulate. I do it myself; if some knucklehead is doing 90 in the left lane, I flash my lights. And if it isn't an Asian woman driving it usually works. All very fine, but I had my car floored whenever I was on the autobahn (before they had any speed limits), I was passing cars on my right, and I'd still the the aholes trying to push me, as if only they are allowed to use the left lane. Same with in BC, in traffic with both lanes full, me moving with traffic, I still get aholes tailgating me as if that would speed things up. I find a tap on the brake or just slowing down usually gets them the message - the latest I heard is to put on your 4 ways when you're being tailgated.

If you're being tailgated just fucking move over. Simple as that. Or you could be one of the idiots that moves over and slows down on a solid double, crest of a hill or curve where you can't pass and speeds up on the straight. And then shits bricks cuz I pass you at 150 and you're too chicken to go over 125. They got this new invention called cruise control. 80% of people are too scared to use it, 15% think they can drive better than a computer so they're always speeding up and slowing down. Your car won't roll over and burn if the freeway curves. It doesn't get wider the faster you go. You don't need to slow down 15kmh because a car's coming. And finally, if my high beams bother you when you're still 5 kms away, park it and see an eye doctor.

One of the reasons I like driving a pickup. If someone is tailgating me, their headlights no longer bother me. It's nice.
Xort - I believe the plan is to make it so that you are always supposed to be in the right hand lane, regardless of your speed. Only when passing is left lane use tolerable, regardless of whether you are doing 20 under or 20 over.

If you are passing cars on your right, how can you just fucking move over. How fucking hard is it the get the concept that highways are often full, there's really no where to move to. Sure, if the right lane is clear, of course you move over, it's not even an issue. Or today. 4 lane city street. Light turns green. I accelerate at the same speed as other traffic, including the car in front of me. but some chick is sitting a couple of feet off my bumper. Why? She got the message when I started dropping speed.

Of course in that case you stay right except to pass. Live near a big city, and that situation is pretty rare. I don't think the govt had in mind that in heavy traffic people only use the right hand lane.

I know where you're coming from andy. I go down south and I'm passing 24 cars in the right lane and someone's always crowding my ass. Not like I'm gonna slow down and join the wolfpack just for that jerk behind until I pass the last one. Went down there in a supercab 4x4 and 24 ft trailer once. Soon as there was 20 ft in front of me going 110, some tard in a Honda Fit would slide in 6" off my front bumper. It's almost like if you don't tailgate, so many cars will jam in until you're going backwards. I think its because they're chickenshit drivers. Cower and piss themselves unless someone is like Mommy, within arm's reach. I see them on the highway up here too, they race up from behind but will never pass. Too scared to be the one in front. They have to unconciously form wolfpacks so they're not all alone in the dark on a lonely highway. Some lovely highway here, like heading to Terrace. Zip up to 110, push the cruise set and tune the sat radio and enjoy hills, curves, amazing scenery for like and hour and a half at a time. And take note of the Alaska ferry crowd, they're the ones coming toward you out of the blowing snow, pissing rain or fog with no DRLs. Don't need goddam gummint to force DRLs on me! Druther the 'freedom' to get head-on'd by 50 tons of logs...

Best highway I ever drove was in Ontario from Sault St Marie to Thunder Bay. Had a 240Z, and did it in about 4 hours = average of 100 mph. Almost nobody on the road. Didn't have or need no cruise control. The most relaxing driving is when you don't have to worry about your speed - same with the autobahn, on the rare occasions it was actually mostly empty. Foot on the floor and go.
The drivers I hate when I'm using cruise is the ones that race by you, move to the right lane so that you either have to slow down or speed up to pass them. Some like to play that stupid game over and over. Actually it's the same cycling - some guy putting out effort to pass, then slows down like he's won or something. Pass him again, and he wants to do it all over again.

BartSimpson BartSimpson: Hyack Hyack: martin14 martin14: To quote Jeremy Clarkson:
I once enjoyed watching Clarkson on Top Gear, I now think he is the biggest fucking moron to ever grace British tv! The guy is a total idiot who acts as if he should be in the looney bin with some of the antics he gets into. He may have gotten rich with this bullshit but he's still a total fucking moron! Blame the writers and the network. Clarkson is just playing a role is all. 50/50, Clarkson has a lot more input into the show than some think. Having said, that, there isn't much left for the boys to do, so I think things are getting a little stale, and the controversies help generate publicity. Some trouble comes from the retarded lefties; I mean let's face it.. How does JC saying eenie meenie minee moe, never aired, suddenly make it ways onto tv, if not for some Green bugger at the BBC trolling like a mad dog ? The "slope on the bridge", or the "Mexican car" bit, yeah well that was probably a calculated move. The BBC makes TONS of money from Top Gear, but they have to keep it fresh and in the news.

martin14 martin14: bootlegga bootlegga: And your tactic just causes extra nervousness in the driver you're harassing.
To quote Jeremy Clarkson: If there was room on the right to pass, there was enough room for you to get out of the way. The problem is that lots of tailgating dumbasses won't wait until it's safe for you to change to the right lane.

Xort Xort: Throwing away a full lane of travel just so ***** like herbie can be criminals seems like a massive waste of money and transport capacity. andyt andyt: I'd like to know where you all live where there is so little traffic. Of course in that case you stay right except to pass. Live near a big city, and that situation is pretty rare. I don't think the govt had in mind that in heavy traffic people only use the right hand lane. Fellas, In a perfect world, in these busy situations you are perfectly free to stay in the left, or middle lanes if the highway is that big, because there are so many people in the right hand lane that you are constantly passing them. In the case where you are travelling in a middle lane at the same speed as those in the right, there is still a lane further to your left that people can use to get around. All lanes are meant to be utilised, but not all of them share the same purpose. If you are in the leftmost lane and people are passing you on the right, you should move over. In reality, I get that city driving isn't at all idealistic. The above view could be applied to rural freeways like highway 19 (my favorite to apply a little extra fuel on), the Coquahalla, #1, #2, #3, @ #16 in Alta, and all the rural passing lane areas. Either way, the point is to give law enforcement better tools so that they may better deal with people who are an obstruction. The way I see it, if someone has to pass you on the right, you are just as wrong as they are regardless of the speeds you are going. You contributed to the circumstances as much as they did that they felt they had to break a law and pass you on the right. If they are speeding and you aren't, you should still both be ticketed.

"she don't realize that it's on camera" guy's a moron - he sped up to stop her from cutting in. Illegal. Instead of braking he continued to try to push her out of the way - in BC at least, he's in deep shit.
