Exactly, if the church raises money and decides to spend it spreading the word, why do you feel entitled to tell them how and where they can spend it ?

Would you tell unicef not to go to Nigeria ? Or doctors without borders not to go to Rwanda. I just really don't understand where your sense of entitlement to dictate the actions of others comes from.

We can't actually tell churches not to go to other countries - that's up the the country they are going to. We can only limit who comes here. At the moment, the threat is from Muslims, we should be preventing Saudi or other money setting up their schools here, and taking much harder looks at the imams that come here from abroad.

But you can't discriminate. That's what's wrong with the Austrian approach - they only apply the law to one religion. Of course the whole concept of "officially recognized religion" as they have it, is stupid.

Austria has every right in the world to discriminate against imperialistic and expansionist Islam.

Islam laid siege to Austria for a fair part of the last millennium and the consensus of Islamic clerics is that Austria is properly Islamic land and they want it for their Caliphate. <--- This has been covered extensively in other topics...feel free to search them.

Well decide which it is, Bart. If Austria has every right to discriminate against expansionist Islam based on 400 y 0 history, then Islam has the right to discriminate against the imperialist and expansionist West of 60 years ago. Or the attacks of the last decade. Seems like a mugs game to me.

What Austria should do is join the 21st century. Abolish the concept of official state religion altogether, and make this foreign funding law apply to all religions. And while they're at it, abolish the tax free status of religions too.
