Jabberwalker Jabberwalker:
Been a long time now since the CF used 7.62mm ammunition.

Depending on what's going on right now, as long as a few hours.

He didn't say that he was using it. He's just positing that there's a high probability that someone in the CF somewhere has used it today.

Perhaps just for their annual qualifications.

... using an antique rifle. Why not a Lee Enfield if you're going to do that? I used to shoot those and man, were they nice. Because they weighed about fifty pounds, you could hold them absolutely rock steady in the prone position, using that old fashioned webbing sling to steady it. It has a gorgeous old vernier site on it, as well. Pretty old fashioned. Also, that .303 round is BAD and it makes 7.62mm feel like 0.22.

C6.

If I do recall, the FNs where C2s?

Personally I use it in one of my own rifles if I was to read your question in the other way.

C1s and C2s. The C1s are semi-automatic only, unless you "fiddled" with them and the C2s are switchable from semi-automatic to full automatic. The Forces used them for about four decade, I'd guess. Nicely made, nice to shoot but heavy by modern standards. I was not in the infantry an I don't know how easy it would be to keep them working properly in mud, filth, snow and somebody shooting at you all of the time. I guess that they were fine because most of NATO, except for the Americans, used a version of the FN.

7.62 NATO is the standard round for the GPMGs, which is why I said a few hours.

The CF likely fires more 7.62 NATO that they do 5.56 NATO.

The C6 is the FN-MAG which is generally considered to be the best MG in the world. Chances are very good that if you have prior service after the (early) 80s you saw it or used it.

Once again someone exposes their ignorance about weapons used by the CF.

Nuggie77 Nuggie77:
The fifty rounds is for a personal qualification shoot. There is plenty of ammunition. Bullshit story by the hacks at Huffpost.

Hate to break it to you dude but this s actually not a new story. Back when I was in the 26th Field Regiment in the 90s (Did Naval and Army Reserves) this was already the norm and Shep joked about troops training going Bang Bang Bang. Well guess what, we did (were told to) do that. My first time out training I could not even bring myself to do it.

SO no, no BS story. Just one about 20 years late being told. :(

And much like our Halifax Class frigates, by the time we get those new rifles, they will already be out of date.

Looks a bit like a staple gun, doesn't it?

Looks like something you could pick up at Canadian Tire.

I know all about the "budget cut and the militia bullet", I was in the militia in the 80's. And I'm back in the militia in 2015 and there is plenty of ammunition.
