I think we're selecting for home technologius - people who interact well with it devices, have less need for physical connection to others. Maybe it won't be that machines take over and eliminate us, as that we just sort of merge with them.

And it can be a line from a song and still used as self-deprecating humor.

Line from a song actually. One hit wonder from the 90s. Harvey something.

Harvey Danger, Flagpole Sitta. Good song. Singer looked like he was permanently 18 years old.

Many people have pointed out evolution is still happening. It never did stop. Modern medicine has slowed it, but not stopped. For example, a few centuries ago several plagues swept through Europe: Bubonic plague, Smallpox, Influenza, others. It caused massive death. Those who survived, passed their genes on to children. Each time Bubonic plague swept through, fewer people died. Some thought the disease became weaker, but it didn't. People became stronger. When Europeans colonized North America, they brought those diseases with them. Natives in North America had not gone through multiple waves of massive deaths, they hadn't gone through evolution. So they died. This is how evolution works.

Today those able to earn income and afford better health care, better food, safer work, will have more children. Good looking people tend to have more children. That is driving evolution. Not as quickly as plague, but it continues. Dental care drives health, as well as appearing attractive to a potential mate. So we evolve to get rid of molars that we don't need anymore. Rich people can afford dentists, dentures, etc., but poor people can't. That is another driver in favour of those able to secure gainful employment. Modern economy does not have rich jobs for those who are exceptionally strong or able to run exceptionally fast, we have forklift trucks able to lift great weight, or cars able to drive fast. So modern economy provides jobs for intelligent people. That pushes evolution toward intelligence, not physical strength. In fact, humans used to be able to run down prey. Try running a deer until the deer can't stand anymore. Most people today can't do it. We are losing physical strength in favour of intelligence. That's evolution.

I've been around the world and seen that only stupid people are breeding.

Do tell?

So when a country with a 100s of millions or a billion people and nuclear weapons runs out of water and sees the neighbour to the north/south with lots, would that be part of 'human evolution'?

Xort Xort:
Human evolution is still on going but it's now being directed into lower biological cost less survivable paths due to the medical support structure for the sick, weak and over sensitive.

People that would have died from their overreacting immune systems now can live mostly normal lives. People with degenerative genetic conditions have the highest chance of reproduction in all of history.

The best solution is to allow human modification of human genetics to improve humanity. Not simple and hard to control breeding projects, but direct genetic manipulation.

Put on your tin foil hat but just think of the future when the dairy producers of the world fund the development of a retrovirus that gives adults lactose tolerance and then infect the whole world 12 Monkey's style.

Or you know, repurpose the ever popular rabies for some reason, and we get zombies.

Either way I think that's a positive over kids so sensitive to allergens that they more or less need to live in clean rooms.

How hard would breeding programs? Snip/tie the tubes of those whom are genetically unfit. Simple, non-life threatening procedures that will prevent the next generation of becoming even more dependent on medicine and machines.

Couple points I'd like to argue against. First, I'm not sure that higher earners rear more children. Given what I've seen, it seems like the poor families birth more children.

The other, so far as running down a deer goes, most people still would be able too if they were physically active throughout their childhood. It hasn't been bred out of us, we're just too damn lazy.

A. G Riddle spins an interesting yarn in his Origin series - The Atlantis Gene, The Atlantis Plague and The Atlantis World. Its premise is that human evolution was controlled using retroviruses and evolutionary bottlenecks. Part of the yarn discusses how we were the only hominid to survive due to our intelligence and its associated aggression. This explains the great leaps forward that we made from brute like existence into full sentience, supplanting our cousins. Supposed to become a movie. I'm reading Book 3 right now.

Do you think it's genetic or something in the water that makes everybody from Winnipeg a fucking retard?

Northender. Right in the middle. Tarbender at a hotel right across the street from the New Occidental. The Manor. I could tell you stories.

Still beats Transcona tho.
