and is due some measure of respect

Were flags flown at half mast when Hussein and Qaddafi died? Both of them were heads of state. Hitler and Mussolini were elected heads of state too. No, respect is not due to them, and anyone believing that ....well, see my sig.

I'm guessing Stalin got it though.

Until Khrushchev let the cat out of the bag at the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

As for King Abdullah, unfortunately he's the head of state of an ally of an ally so I guess out of courtesy we'll have to. XD

We had this discussion when Kim Jong Il died and the UN lowered its flags.

Cuba lowered it's rag too. That's it though, isn't it? Just those two?

This was our official reaction...

* Image Canada – Prime Minister Stephen Harper said, "Kim Jong-il will be remembered as the leader of a totalitarian regime who violated the basic rights of the North Korean people for nearly two decades. We hope his passing brings positive change allowing the people of North Korea to emerge from six decades of isolation, oppression and misery. ... At this critical juncture, we urge North Korea to close this sad chapter in its history and to work once more towards promoting both the well-being of its people and stability on the Korean peninsula.

I'm not sure why anyone would honor a man who reportedly has directed some $400 million to extremists in the past couple years.

A lot of US presidents who channeled money to extremist and terrorist groups have been honoured over the years...

Of course they should lower the flag - Saudi Arabia is our good friend and ally. Bush made sure they got a special allowance to fly home after 911, Shrub and Barry won't release certain pages of the 9/11 report relating to SA. Hell the US should be forcing its citizenry to wear black armbands in mourning for the loss of such a dear friend. When Jeb becomes prez, he'll be sure to make up for any lapses of sucking up that Barry might have committed.

Steveo should also express his sorrow that our second largest importer of Canadian military gear has suffered such a tragic loss.

But Mussolini was hung

Hanged ...the word is "hanged". As pointed out earlier, "hung" has another meaning.
