Nobody killed this inmate except herself. I would have granted that inmate in Belgium facing life in prison his desire for assisted death, but not this woman, at least not until after the trial. But forcing somebody to eat, I'm not sure we should be doing that.
Society might get closure from the trial, the family not so much. What I read is that the people who truly get closure about the murder of a loved one are the ones that can forgive the killer. Even if he's executed, it just doesn't seem to heal the wound the way finding forgiveness does - you can let the burden go. (Forgiveness doesn't mean the killer should face the consequences of his actions.)
