OnTheIce OnTheIce:
It's cop bashing when 99% of the police related articles that are posted are negative in nature

You guys love to shit on police and ignore the good they do and focus on the bad....I get it...but don't expect everyone else not to see the trend here.

Dump on...

You're not making any sense. That's news. Ever notice that the paper contains mostly bad news. Especially if you're a Leafs fan. ha ha ha. If you want your news to be all good news bromides then go to upworthy or something.

In this case, it looks like there has not been justice, and you don't have to be a cop hater to get fired up about that.

You'd prefer not to see these stories? Because I'd prefer for them not to happen in the first place.

Sure I am...there's lots of good news stories out there. You guys love to circle-jerk around the bad ones. I get it. You and the media aren't alone.

Nice attempt at the jab at being Leafs fan...too bad you've missed that I'm a Bruin's fan. Sucks to be the guy wearing the Canucks badge next to his name now, eh? Don't worry, you'll get over the butt-hurt eventually.

I'd prefer to see some balance. I'd also prefer they not happen. The good stories far outweigh the bad but where's the fun in discussing that, right?

What's funny is that I've actually been a victim of police misconduct and I don't feel the need to shit on them at every turn like most of you.

If there were more positive stories, they'd get posted.

And even in the good news stories, you have Bart shitting on them post after post in that topic.

I guess being a wannabe cop has made him see the light.

Edit: "Wanna-be cop" is too generous. More accurate would be 'glorified security guard' because that's essentially the role I filled for 99% of the time.

Up until five years ago I sounded just like you. Check my posts, you'll see it's true.

Then I got to see a gang unit scramble to try to find a drop gun to put on an innocent man named Luis Gutierrez who they had mistaken for someone else and who was summarily executed for daring to look like someone else.

Then I got into trouble when I was interviewed about the aftermath of that shooting and I was honest and truthful in my deposition.

It went downhill from there and now I find myself at odds with the people who hold up cops as some sort of infallible demigods.

Oh, and just to disabuse you of the idea that these are 'isolated incidents'...

"You guys"? You have me mixed up with someone else. I don't hate cops. Me and EyeBrock (whom I miss) got along quite well actually.

In this case, it sounds to me like worthy of media attention. Certianly the people invovled didn't seem to get anywhere through official channels.

Oh yeah...still sucks to be a Leafs fan though. Yeah, tough being a Canucks fan, but no matter how bad things get, I can always be reassured by the fact that at least I'm not you.

There's no balance. The media overwhelmingly convey bad news. The funny thing is that no one really quite knows why. Why are Shakespeare's tragedies considered more classic than his comedies? Who knows. Some quirk of human nature.

Well said.

When things are good no one really cares because that's what we want. It's the bad news that everyone remembers.

Only you would know a site like that....and that was for Friday....and the day is over.

Wow, 14 incidents....of 1.1 million cops in the US....that accounts for 0.0012%. We have an epidemic! Add to that the amount of interactions and arrests....tens of millions of interactions and a small portion of misconduct. Humans make mistakes and police are no different.

Maybe you can talk this one out with your shrink on why cops make you cry.

The problem is expressed rather clearly:
$1:
"The decision to lay or recommend a criminal charge … is made by municipal police," Nadine Cooper Mont said. "This is normally done long before a complaint reaches the review board."

The police decide if they did anything wrong, and normally decide well before the official review.

We need to take the right of legal recourse away from the criminal party, and put it into the hands of a group that's singular job is to investigate police crimes.

Hold these members to the highest standard of personal and professional morality and excellence.

~

A new standard for all police forces in Canada should be the requirement for personal recorders to capture everything they do on duty. The data showing reductions in force and complaints from US cities that have implemented that requirement are so shocking and dramatic as to be a no brainer.

Lastly when the government drops charges against suspects the government should be on the hook for all reasonable costs incurred by the people, and a penalty both financial for the government and one in terms of personal hardship for the deciding authority.

The state should not be able to engage in fishing or harassment by using it's power to arrest people then drop charges at a later date.

~

Attacking someone because they bumped into you, as they under your order tried to pass through a door way you were partly blocking is not acceptable. Both those officers should be facing charges for their attacking the family, and more critically breaking into a domicile residence, a crime that carries up to a life sentence.

So here's an example of a cop who is openly insubordinate to his own department policies of wearing a body cam. If he's willing to go on record as being unwilling to respect his own department rules then how can he be trusted by the public?

What are they so afraid of?

That camera can prove innocence as well as guilt in any situation so, no matter what this clowns reasons for not wearing one are, the optics remain that he's either a bully or a psychopath who doesn't want his illegal actions recorded.

Actually the question was rhetorical.

But......... they're the good guys. ROTFL

Actually most of them are or maybe I should say were. Now there seems to be a plethora of narcissists, thugs, bullies and just plain twits in police uniform.

I've been saying it for years, it's time that "all" Canadian police forces tightened up recruiting expotentially and did alot more comprehensive tests to ascertain mental suitability for police work because the system they've got now isn't working.

They mean fuck-all to me. Never heard of them before.

I'm not really a follower of the cop-hater movement...so that's not a surprise that I'm not aware of your sources.
