OK, I should have read the story. I thought this was about putting up a cross on a memorial.

This cross was on scene before 911, it's an artifact in a museum. As such, the atheists should go fuck themselves. They're just shooting themselves in the foot with the argument.

On September 13 a worker at the site named Frank Silecchia discovered a 20 foot (6.1 meter)[5] cross of two steel beams amongst the debris of 6 World Trade Center,[6] and had a cross cut from it.[7] Those with access to the site used the cross as a shrine of sorts, leaving messages on it or praying before it.[8][9]

Exactly. Even if you're against religion, the fact that the cross took up such spiritual significance and brought comfort to both survivors, and rescue workers during the 9-11 cleanup and recovery efforts makes it a historical artifact as much as a spiritual one.

I wonder if the same individuals against this cross would be against putting the first Gutenberg Bible in a museum too.
