Just because you have a letter boxed forced aspect ratio of 16:9 doesnt mean you have good guality or anywhere close to DVD ( a dying format in itself being rapidly replaced by Blu Ray ) VHS has or should I more appropriately say had a resolution of 352x240, letter box it and its drops down even more. DVD has a rez of 720x480 and todays HD is 1920x1080, a smart phone has better rez than VHS.
Maybe, but I never really noticed the 'huge' difference in the jump between cassette and DVD. I watch movies for the story, not the how clear some dude in the background of a massive battle scene is...special effects are nice, but a good story beats them everytime!

Last time I even saw a VHS player was somewhere in early 2000's and we had a video rental shop. Someone needs to sit you down in front of a large HDTV and play your favourite film on Blu Ray, maybe then you'll come to your senses and ditch your caveman tech.
On a different note some of todays audio engineers like to run just an audio signal through a VCR just add that vintage analogue colour to it.
Nah, I've got two Blu-rays (three if you count my PS3), each hooked up to one of my 42 inch HDTVs (a mere 120 HZ, not 240) and I've got a dozen or two movies on Blu-Ray.
Frankly, I don't see much difference when I watch any of the Bourne movies or any of the other action movies I own. Even Avatar wasn't so much better that it was worth the extra $5 or whatever I paid for the Blu-Ray disc (as opposed to regular DVD).
Just last weekend I watched Falling Down on my VHS (hooked up to an old 27 inch CRT TV) - I didn't care about the resolution on bit, just that the movie is freaking awesome!
Blu-ray is okay (although the constant updates for them is another piss-off), but I simply don't see what all the hoopla is about. Certainly, I haven't noticed enough difference to spend the extra cash on Blu-ray movies when I do buy a movie.

P.S : Please dont tell me you still own a CRT TV !
Yep, one that sits in the basement (hooked up to a Wii, VCR and DVD player). It pretty much only gets used when I watch a VHS movie.
