If the G20 diplomats did not expect to be under surveillance then they should not move in diplomatic circles.

So then, why was the official reason for spying on them 'to prevent terrorist activities'? They are the prime targets of terrorist activities, not the prime suspects. Sometimes you just have to trust your allies, not stab them in the back to gain an economic advantage (the actual reason to spy on them).

If you don't have some mutual trust between allies, they end up doing what Pakistan did this week and outing your whole operation and putting many lives at risk.

I agree, however this has always been the case. This revelation is just an example of status quo.

I think that the expectation was there that CSEC would survail the event, but I think some are genuinely shocked that the NSA was allowed to do it inside Canada. I know I am.

Now it's a book deal, magazine cover and movie while the real spies remain silent until Ben Affleck can tell their story.

CSEC claims that they did noting wrong or illegal. We have no means at all to measure the truth of that. Sure, the public doesn't need to know everything but we are being blind-sided by those in whom we have placed our trust.

"The public doesan't need to know everything"? That's the understatement of the year. This government seems to be all about hiding whatever it is they are up, while at the same time insisting that they know exactly what we are up to by whatever underhanded means available.
