redhatmamma redhatmamma:
This is all thanks to McGuinty's Green Energy Act, another screw the voter act.

One of the biggest problems are the wind turbines, they produce something like 1% of the power but cost 11%. We should have a choice of meters, and a choice of taking our energy solely from hydro electric power which is cheaper.

Just another McGuinty scam.

That and the extra billions they spent on our nuclear plant.

So given that hydro prices are highly subsidized and ratepayers pay only a fraction of the true cost of electricity they use, what's the alternative to raising rates.... raise taxes?

Good point make the user pay...so go charge up your electric car like a good lefty .

Don't be late for your "dirty Alberta oil" bashing committee.

Or we could remedy this......

$1:
Ontario consumers have subsidized out-of-province electricity buyers to the tune of $1.2 billion over the past three years, says a newly released report.

Why the fuck are we subsidizing out-of-province electricity buyers? We should be selling it for a damn profit and either invest in more infrastructure or lower Ontario hydro rates!

That makes no sense. At all.

Out of province? That's a drop in the bucket. Why are we subsidizing in-province electricity buyers? That's where we're going broke.

I'll support them not "subsidizing" us when they quit subsidizing solar generators, paying them anywhere from 34.7 to 54.9 cents per kilowatt hour, and when the government stops unloading responsibility for its corrupt political douchebaggery on ratepayers.

That 1.1 billion wasted on gas plants? Guess who's paying for that shit? Ratepayers.

or they could try the truth...

a real budget would be nice too One that says things like we make X so maybe we should not spend X to the power of 42 right now. They could grow a back bone and maybe cut some of their spending. Maybe some of the pet projects they were using to buy votes in big cities come to mind...

And therein lays the problem. We've been fleeced into paying for an ideology. I did the math. Ontario could have closed down its coal fired plants, said "no thanks" to the turbines and solar generators, and it would STILL have more than enough capacity to meet its needs.

As to Lemmy's post, I'm currently paying over 10 cents/KWh while the province exports that same hydro to the US for just over 3 cents/KWh.
