DrCaleb DrCaleb:
I'm not the biggest fan of the Senate, but don't blame the Senate for Duffy, Brazeau or Wallins. They abused the system, but many of the other Senators did not. And many of them do very good work in the service of Canada.

I think the motto for the Senate should be "Adapt or Perish." I don't think they are completely useless either, but this idea of appointing random hacks to taxpayer-funded free ride for life has simply got to stop.

I think there are many people in the senate who get paid for no apparent work. Senators mostly.

Are the Mounties going to investigate all of them?

Billions of dollars just disappeared with no accounting for it during the Chretien years. And if what I hear is correct, the same problem has occurred under Harper's watch as well.

That is how the Canadian system has always worked from before Confederation.

That doesn't make any of it right. Still, point taken.

Hopefully Big Mike's reign of error is coming to an abrupt end and his illegal antics will be the straw that broke the camel's back when it comes to abolishing that useless patronage appointment filled, anachronistic, den of iniquity called the Senate.

True, just because 4 out of a 106 senators (IIRC) were crooked doens't make the entire institution a bad one.

If we're going to get rid of every institution/organiztion with that percentage of bad apples, we're going to have to tear down pretty much everything in our society.

You are right but it is discouraging that it is nestled so deep in the foundation. Once, it was a family compact. Now partisan considerations trump everything else and our representatives are trained seals ... the lucky ones get to dispense largesse.

Duffy's blaming his wife now? That's pretty low.

It's only slightly better than Brazeau ... who beats his.
