Ego over practicality/safety I guess.

Radar/IR missiles doesn't care if the jet is gun-metal Grey or florescent pink. If it is being shot at by machine gun or cannon fire, whether from a combat jet or from a shooter on the ground, I doubt it really makes much of a difference what the colour is.

Think about it this way, when we as a country were ready to go to war with the Soviets, this was the basic colour scheme for all non-combat aircraft. This whole gun-metal grey theme didn't really come about till the end of the cold war. If the colour was such a critical factor for non-combat jets, the airforce would have been running the gun-metal grey colour scheme for all aircraft since 1946.

Your argument isn't with me, it's with the defense department.

That is incredibly sexy, IMHO.

Only change I would have made is slightly larger roundels...although, I'm sure they are that size for a reason.

As for the PMO's bus...I thought it would have been cool if they paid a little homage to our fighter AC and painted an inverted cockpit on the bottom...teehehehe.

They aren't complaining about going away from gunmetal grey.

It's the colour blue. :?

The "they" I posted about refers to the department of defense. And they were opposing the change from gun metal grey.

The paint job for 01 befits its highest profile role, transportation of the PM, Royal Family, etc. The RCAF designed the new paint scheme itself.

We still have two dozen plus big transport planes (CC-150, CC-177, CC-130) painted in low profile drab grey.

I'm sure they'll get by.

It looks great. Fantastic, actually. Well done RCAF.

Though it is funny to hear opposition MPs decry the use of the colour blue. Nevermind that blue's a colour from the RCAF roundel.

Personally, I don't really care what he does with the plane, but the Opposition does have a point.

I don't see any blue on our flag...maybe I'm colour blind or something.

If I wanted to have a 'Canadian' plane, I would have painted it red and white period. With gradients and shading/fading, it could have still been very sharp without looking like an Air Canada plane.

Given Harper's past political maneuverings, it should come as no surprise that some people might think that he (or the party) is trying to use psychology to make the Conservative Party synonymous with Canada by using blue on the plane's paint scheme.

The same thing was be said about some of the big cheques the party handed out during the Stimulus program with Conservative Party logos on them.

I'm just trying to play devil's advocate and spur a discussion that steers away from all the "the colour scheme is Harper Conservative colours!!!" crap.

From what I knew the airforce was the one that designed the colour scheme?

The only point you and them have is a partisan one looking to score points.

I believe the Conservatives and NDP did the same thing during the Chretien days. Just arguing for the sake of it.

I don't think anyone in opposition (besides Pat Martin, maybe) believes all the junk that is being spouted about the paint job on 01.

Those who aren't fans of Harper and are profoundly ignorant of the Armed Forces (RCAF in particular) are another story. They'll lap this up without question.

There's a reason why the colours of the Liberal logos are what they are.

As for the bleu, it works for the Snowbirds, so what's the issue here anyways?
