So build a practical electric vehicle and more will come. One a 2 seater minivan or pickup that can be used for business purposes, a 4 seater that can get you to work or shopping and back. Doesn't need sporty or gimmicky or to go fast or go 500 miles on a charge. Fits a niche like the original Beetle, Mini, original Courier and Luv pickups, the Japanese Kei idea. Therefore it doesn't have to be $60K, would sell enough to be $15 - $20K. And sits stalled in a traffic jam using ZERO energy. And you keep your gas vehicle, which now has the #1 cause of wear & tear removed and lasts a hell of a lot longer.

stratos stratos: And it's price? Expensive ($78,000-$104,000 USD). Don't think of Tesla as just an electric car, they are trying to be electric luxury cars, so they are priced in line with highend BMW's, Merc's, Lexus, etc.

Is someone forcing you to buy a zero emission car again? No. If you can't afford that, look into the Fusion Energi Hybrid I posted earlier. Starting at $40k.

People spout that the electric car's are better and cheaper. Yet you just admited they are not cheaper and in many cases more expensive then gas car's of the same catigories.

Upfront cost, electric is more. Life time cost, electric is way, way less. Edit to clarify. To get a reasonable life-time cost estimate, take the purchase price of the ICE vehicle, add in the difference between gas and electricity, and add in the life-time cost of maintaining an ICE engine. Tires, suspension, interior, transmission, etc are a wash as they are required on both.

Life time cost, electric is way, way less. That's quite a claim that, so far, no electric car has managed to substantiate. Given that most people own a car for about five years then we need to look at the cost for the first owner and then for the second owner. If second owners are getting stuck with the lion's share of the maintenance bills (replacing batteries and etc.) then resale values will plummet and that negative amortization will have to be factored into the TCO for the vehicle.

What i'm about to say is very old Data, 2-3yrs at least, but I remember hearing a report that the ICE car batteries needed to be replaced about every year. Most cars had 4 batteries and each battery cost from 5k-7k. Like I said this is old info and i'm going off memory so it might not have been as many batteries per car but the 5k-7k per battery is what sticks in my head the most.
