So when the hell do you mow the lawn??? It's down right dangerous to be operating a lawnmower in the dark. All anybody needs to do is sight in between the headlights and up about a foot and.... :( :(

Taiwan was nice in this aspect because the length of the days didn't change that much from summer to winter....maybe an hour. They also didn't use DST as everybody gets up early to enjoy the cool(relatively speaking) of dawn...and get active in the evening when things cooled down...again relatively speaking

Unsound Unsound:
bootlegga bootlegga:
DST is one of mankind's greatest inventions - anything that lets me sit on my deck and enjoy the sun until 10pm in the summer ranks up there with electricity, flight & computers! [B-o]

So move to High level... :)

I'm not interested in rural living thank you very much, Edmonton already feels too small.

Nope, I'm with Boots and Pluggy. I'll trade for darkness on the way to work to get daylight after work any day.

In Edmonchuck, it's a double whammy - without DST, the sun would be up around 4 am every morning.

This lets us have some darkness to get a better sleep AND lets us have long, sun-filled evenings. Win-win...

Spend a few more years in an Asian hive and you'll appreciate how open Canadian cities are

I lived outside of Tokyo for two years and in Hsinchu (Taiwan) for six months. I've also visited Seoul and Beijing, I know very well how dense Asian cities are.

I don't want to live any of those places either, but a bigger area (like the Bay Area in California), where it's nice and spread out, there is lots of variety and they have mild winters (and low humidity generally) seems like a nice fit for me.

I found the sun setting at 6pm and rising at 6am to be disconcerting when I first moved to Japan (in mid-July no less). I was so used to long summer nights that it felt odd for it to be pitch black on a hot summer night. I got used to it over time, but still missed it.

That's why I wouldn't want to live anywhere else than in Canada.

I don't mind it. Thanks to DST it's been light enough for me and the Mrs. to go out for a walk the past few nights after 6pm.

Good point - I never looked at that way.

Tokyo in the summer was often hellish because the asphalt absorbed heat all day long then radiated it for most of the night. Coupled with air pollution from all the factories in the area, it often had some really wicked thunderstorms.
