It's amazing what happens when the heart remains sealed and your brain receives sufficient blood flow

Public_Domain Public_Domain:
Wooooaaaahhhhhh, can't wait for the holocaust deniers to get to this one.

(Actually, I can wait)

Well, I suppose the Holocaust deniers can declare somewhat of a victory. For decades, teh six million number became canon. In Canada, as well as most European countries, it became law. Disagreeing with the six million number can land you in jail in many countries.

Now it turns out the estimate wasn't even close, at least according to this study.

No, they didn't increase the number of dead, they just increased the number of facilities that were used to process the liquidations and forced labour arrangements. The main article has parts in it that aren't very well written, especially that "15 to 20 million" line that's confusing and can be used to promote the wrong belief that 15 to 20 million are now the number of dead directly attributable to Holocaust-related activities by the Germans and their allies.

I'm wondering right now if it's not a big mistake to make an equivalency argument that all the sites were the same. A farmer's paddock in Ukraine that was once used to hold rounded-up Jews for a couple of days is not the same as the death camp they would later be sent to or the ditch that they'd be forced to dig before they were shot and dumped into it. If you go by this map every spot where a German command post was once set up is now kind of being equated to Auschwitz. All of the Holocaust was a result of German activity but not all German activity was part of the Holocaust, which is where I think the authors of this study are making a mistake.

My bad. Thanks for the clarification.
