your words "Don't believe 'rumours'. He's pleading not guilty to that charge, because he knows it can't be proven. The only personal information leaked was about people that had died months previous to his collecting the information."

My words "No where does it say that these sources (people) are already dead."

So please show where it says in the artical that the sources died months pervious to his collecting and releasing this information.

As for the menu thing, sorry thought you were trying to compare it to what he released not the Conference menu deal. Yeah I agree with you on that its like wow are they hiding the fact they ate cow brains or something.

I didn't say that.

"The only personal information leaked was about people that had died months previous to his collecting the information."

We had a discussion, where someone claimed that the information posted by Wikileaks had resulted in the death of an Afghan informant. But it turns out the informant had died months before.

Part of the discussion was here:

It's never as cut-and-dry as we think, isn't it, EB?

Well, I think there's a lot on the go on this one Ray! Manning and Wikileaks have probably done the Western military and their governments a favour in the long term.

I doubt a malcontent will be allowed such unfettered access to classified info again. Also, whatever we say, I think Manning will have a long time to reflect on his actions, on his own.

He will do jail time but I'm not sure he's be inside for an extended period of time.
A token sentence is what I'm thinking but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Yanks and a token sentence? I think not. He will be doing ten years plus methinks.

At the end of the day he gave his country's secrets away. He will pay and the courts martial will be sending a message to others thinking of following Manning's example.

Agreed, and that's how it should be. Canada sentenced Jeffrey Delisle to 20 years for selling secrets to Russia, I don't see why Manning should be given a weak sentence for posting massive amounts of classified information on the Internet.

Agreed. Ideology vs cash. It doesn't matter how the traitor is defined or rewarded. It's still giving away your country's secrets.

Probably a lot more than we think.
